🚨MOGADISHU, #Somalia — Some employees at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport staged a strike on Thursday morning, accusing the airport’s operating Turkish company, Favori LLC, of illegally deducting wages and committing other labor violations.
The workers, who gathered at the airport’s main entrance, said operations were halted as they protested what they described as unfair treatment. They said their complaints had been raised repeatedly but that authorities have yet to take action.
The employees expressed frustration with the Somali government, accusing it of failing to protect local workers’ rights and of allowing foreign companies operating in the country to violate labor regulations.
Security forces in Somalia’s Galmudug regional state arrested two journalists on Wednesday night and Thursday morning for covering a surge in clan revenge killings, local officials and colleagues said.
