Yesterday, I joined the chiefs and people of Agogo, as well as family, friends and other mourners at the one-week observance of the life of Nana Kwame Akuako Sarpong.
Nana Akuako Sarpong, a lawyer, served as Agogohene for five decades. He also served as an MP and in various government capacities, overseeing sectors such as Health and the Interior.
On behalf of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, I express my condolences to Nana Akuako Sarpong's family and the people of the Agogo Traditional Area. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.
I was struck by a rather interesting comment during the welcome presentation of a traditional Belarusian cake to HE the President, John Dramani Mahama, when he arrived in Minsk.
This ceremony was a real honour for the guest, and the cake was presented by two ladies in traditional Belarusian attire, which showed a great deal of cultural respect and appreciation.
In Ghana, we usually offer water and, in some traditional settings, kola nuts as a way to welcome someone.
