A viral “17 km journey home” story about seven #dogs had everyone in tears — until the plot twist. Turns out there were no traffickers or dramatic injuries; the dogs had simply wandered off during mating season and eventually found their way back home.

Seven dogs stolen by suspected dog meat traders in northeastern China managed to escape and make the journey back home together

The pack was spotted walking along a highway in Changchun, with a corgi, a German shepherd and a golden retriever among the escapees

The guy who filmed em, Lu, said he tried to guide them to safety, but the dogs ignored him

They reportedly traveled around 17 kilometers across roads and open ground, staying together the whole way like a four-legged prison break crew

Days later, all seven dogs were reunited with their owners from three different households
