@USDA_NRCS If you want to stop the runoff from fields freshly covered with manure, add biochar to the mix. Not only will you halt the runoff you will be sequestering carbon, building soils, and avoid having to listen to your neighbors complaining about the odor from the application.

@USDA_NRCS All good advice. Missing however is the incorporation of biochar into the mix which will keep those valuable fertilizers in place rather than leaching into the ground away from the roots of plants where they are needed.

@clintwfischer I am just enjoying the responses and getting an education from the opinions. We do not have that kind of land for sale in Vermont and certainly not any that can get those prices per acre. We do have many small local farms that serve us, and the visitors, very well.
