I've been getting questions about how to embed Indigenous history and current realities in classrooms in ways that are appropriate and respectful.
Here's a quick video to help!

This is a heavy week for Indigenous students and teachers. In Ojibwe we’ve been focusing on saying and knowing we matter, we are still here, we are proud and we are strong.

The Ojibwe words of the Week at @hwburgessps have been words about our animal relatives.
Grade 2/3 made a short video sharing some of these words. They used Pic Collage to create these super cute pictures!

The WDSS Drama club is presenting The Boy in the Treehouse here at WDSS on Wednesday. Come and check out this award-winning team and help them to fundraise for their trip to Regionals!
WDSS is proud to announce that the Drama Club has won Outstanding Production at the NTS Drama Festival. They will be representing the Lambton Kent District at the regional festival in Hamilton later in April. Way to go Tartans!
Almost all @hwburgessps classes and staff had a chance to learn with the Indigenous People’s Atlas of Canada Floor Map.
We wished we could have more time with it, there’s so much to explore and so many discussions to have!

My daughter was in a play with an all Indigenous student cast and crew from @wdsstartans
They performed a play by Anishinaabe author, @TheDHTaylor
I am so proud today!

I know that all my educator friends are trying to just enjoy the break right now, but when you watch this video, what curriculum connections can you make?
This video with my dad and my son was filmed at my home in Bkejwanong, Walpole Island First Nation.

Another reason why we ask Ts not to have Ss “paint like Morrisseau” because what r we actually teaching them? It’s ok to copy w/o permission.
Instead have Ss learn abt Indigenous artists who they r & why they chose their style.

We had a great time making stop-motion animation with @gand_the in our Learning Commons yesterday! We have been hearing Anishinaabe stories about animals, learning about their needs, and saying Ojibwe words! 🦊🦝🐺🐸🐭🦌🐍
Stay tuned for the finished product!
