Yet another shocking killing in broad daylight in Tarn Taran district — 3rd in just 16 days. This is a disturbing reflection of a system where fear is increasingly becoming part of everyday life.

How are criminal networks and illegal firearms being allowed to flourish, terrorising people openly without any fear of consequences?

While these networks continue to threaten public safety, the AAP government appears more focused on post-incident damage control and protecting its public image than on addressing the root causes of deteriorating law-and-order situation.

दशहरे की रात 9 बजे दिल्ली की हवा छह शामों में सबसे गंदी थी।

रात 9 से 10 बजे दिल्ली में CPCB के AQI पैमाने पर घंटे का सूचकांक औसतन 283 रहा। यह CPCB की 'ख़राब' श्रेणी है। 15 से 20 अक्टूबर की छह शामों में इस घंटे का यह सबसे ज़्यादा आँकड़ा है।

15 से 19 अक्टूबर की पाँच शामों में इसी घंटे का औसत 166 था और ठीक एक शाम पहले 19 अक्टूबर को यह 200 था। दशहरे की रात का सूचकांक इन पाँच शामों के औसत का 1.7 गुना रहा।

शाम 5 से 6 बजे से रात 9 से 10 बजे तक सूचकांक 153 अंक बढ़ा। पिछली पाँच शामों में इन्हीं घंटों में यह बढ़त औसतन 70 अंक की थी। दशहरे पर यह बढ़त 2.2 गुना रही।

रात 9 से 10 बजे दिल्ली के 43 में से 32 स्टेशन 'ख़राब' या उससे बदतर श्रेणी में थे। पिछली किसी शाम ऐसे स्टेशन 20 से ज़्यादा नहीं हुए थे। 22 स्टेशन 'बहुत ख़राब' या 'गंभीर' श्रेणी में थे।

शादीपुर में रात 8 से 9 बजे और फिर 9 से 10 बजे सूचकांक 500 पर पहुँचा। CPCB का पैमाना यहीं ख़त्म होता है।

UDAN turns ten today, and by July 2026 this government had let 331 UDAN routes of small towns go dead.

The Civil Aviation Ministry itself told the Rajya Sabha in writing in July 2026 that 679 routes had been started under UDAN from its launch to 10 July 2026, and that only 348 routes were operating when it answered. So 331 routes, 48.7 per cent of all the routes started since the launch, were not flying in July 2026.

On 20 October 2026, the Government's PIB backgrounder on UDAN's ten years gave the number of routes started, but did not say how many of them fly today.

When it launched UDAN on 21 October 2016, the Ministry said the scheme "will create affordable yet economically viable and profitable flights on regional routes so that flying becomes affordable to the common man even in small towns". The scheme's name makes the same promise: Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik, let the common citizen of the country fly.

To keep these flights running, the Government pays airlines a subsidy called viability gap funding. In the same written answer of July 2026, the Ministry said 165 routes were discontinued before the three-year subsidy period was even over.

In its 2023 audit of UDAN, the CAG recorded that the scheme was meant to ensure that "the connectivity established is not dependent on VGF in perpetuity". The CAG counted 774 routes awarded in the first three rounds of bidding, and found that by March 2023 only 54 of them, 7 per cent, were still flying after the three-year subsidy period ended.

This government let 165 small-town UDAN routes die before the subsidy ran out.
