A sting from a jellyfish occurs when the tentacles touch the human skin. The cell, nematocytes shoot poisons into the skin. The severity of the sting depends on how much of the tentacle touches the skin and what species of jellyfish is.

Jellyfish reproduce both sexually and asexually. One generation (the medusa) reproduces sexually, and the next generation (the polyp) reproduces asexually. Immortal and if split with become two jellies

Despite their name, jellyfish aren't fish they are zooplankton. They are the type of zooplankton that are able to both swim and drift around. They also share the same animal group as sea anemone and coral. Woods hole oceanographic institution, jellyfish and other zooplankton.

Some Jellyfish have eyes, the box jellyfish have 24 eyes of four different types, some of the eyes see light levels and others can detect colour and object size. This allows them to make out images that helps with detecting prey.

Jellyfish are the oldest multicellular animal on the planet, approx. 3 times the amount of time since the dinosaurs walked the earth.

The reason you only see small jellyfish on the beach is because they are made up 85-98% of water, the water evaporates out of them the longer they are out of water.

In the 1990s, moonfish jellyfish were sent into space. When the jellyfish arrived back on earth they had multiplied. Due to being in a microgravity environment the jellyfish lost the ability to adapt back to gravity.

To aid a jellyfish sting: remove tentacles, vinegar or salty ocean water (not urine), sit in warm water for 45mins and if an allergic reaction occurs call 000.
