@TwoRulesOfWar A field hospital commander saw us out there and he was like “this is fucking army, hooah? Next AT, say goodbye to the FOB, we’re in tents from now on”.
So nobody in the rest of the brigade/division liked us after that
@TwoRulesOfWar It was fort McCoy, our commander picked whatever range is at the top left. Base staff was life what about all these other areas she was like no here and they were like where will you sleep and she was like in tents in the trees.
@TwoRulesOfWar What was worse, for me, was first 3-4 weeks of Covid lockdown. It was like 2-3 traumas a night and it was all 40-60 yr dudes drunkenly fixing their roof at 12-4 am. Totally bizarre like a weird B movie plot.
Discussion about AC should be thrown in the trash if anyone was literate about history.
The battle of the Alamo and all of the fighting in Texas occurred in Texas, with people wearing wool felt uniforms.
Much of the fighting in the war of 1812 occurred in the south. And Louisiana.
The civil war: no further notes.
People wearing outrageously hot outfits fighting wars outside in the sun when people are saying human beings can’t survive.
@EODHappyCaptain I’ve been without AC many times in the army. Humans can live without it.
Things that make it tough: gear, vehicles, constructed buildings.
Things that make it better: shade, water (frozen if possible), movement of air (wind, fans, whatever you can improvise).
@TwoRulesOfWar In fort Leonard wood basic training, we slept nut to butt in wooden shacks probably 100 years old during a tornado warning.
Some years later met someone from another company at same time. Dude was like yeah we took shelter in the bunkers.
I was like wtf bunkers where were those
@TwoRulesOfWar@coffee_oil@TheBuddyCSM I lost money every time I put on the uniform in the reserves. That’s why I think people misunderstand, the people who are there are in it for love of the game. Talk about weekend warriors all you want but at least in medical there’s no benefit greater than the experience.
Just before the 2003 invasion of Iraq I testified before the Sen Foreign Rel Comm w Biden in the chair: do not invade Iraq--only Iran will benefit . Re Afghanistan : ignore foolish Petraeus who promises an Afghan army--it will never fight the Talibs. But opening Hormuz is dff
The world needs a release valve. A way to express that which you can’t say, the thing everyone feels but you can’t quite put a finger on.
For quite some time now, it’s shown up in pulp fiction. Movies, comic books and such.
That’s why, when someone set about to make a serious comic book film series (the MCU) everyone loved it.

@TheIOGuy Doing cowboy shit in the field/theatre and someone lives because of it: pretty cool
Doing cowboy shit in a level 1 trauma center for no reason and killing/maiming someone: criminal
Yet the culture in mil med centers somehow hasn’t changed a whole lot, apparently
