I'm proud to have earned the endorsement of the California Teachers Association. Our teachers shape the future of every child in our district! I'll keep working to make sure our public schools and educators have the resources they need to help students succeed.
Today, a member of my family was hit by a car as they crossed a crosswalk with a stop sign. They are fine — thanks to the car's automatic braking system, it was just a hard bump. But it was scary and could have been much worse. The car was apparently going quite fast and screeched to a halt just as it impacted.
I share the story for a few reasons:
First, in this age of mobile phone distractions, don't assume that a driver approaching a stop sign will see you crossing the street. Try to make eye contact with the driver and be cautious if you can't.
Second, I'm grateful for the safety system technology in that car. It probably prevented a broken leg or worse. Technology, properly applied, can help us be safer, though of course we still need oversight and safeguards.
Third, and this isn't really a lesson, I was sad that the driver drove off without stopping. Who knows what was going through their minds, or what was going on in their lives. But I pray for them and hope this experience will make them more careful going forward.
Stay safe everyone!
A new report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that inflation is outpacing wage growth, meaning your paycheck isn't going as far. And with gas topping $6 a gallon across the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys because of this Administration's illegal war with Iran, we're all feeling the squeeze.
It's time for a change. Make your voice heard on November 3rd and by making sure to get out there and VOTE!
Thank you to the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor for your endorsement! I'll keep working alongside the union members who power our region, fighting for fair wages, strong benefits and a secure retirement.
Wildfires are a significant and growing national security risk. Congress has a generational opportunity to reform the way we plan, permit and execute wildfire resilience projects by passing the Fix Our Forests Act this year.
Moving through regular order, FOFA has gotten stronger and more bipartisan at every step of the process. It’s got the votes. It needs to move on NDAA this year.

The heat is on for episode five of Capitol Heat. 🔥🌶️
Thanks to my unofficial twin, @JamesWalkinshaw, for sitting down with me, taking on the spicy wings, and keeping it real. You won’t want to miss this one!

I joined the Child & Family Center for their Purple Walk 5K in Santa Clarita to stand with survivors of domestic violence and support children and families impacted by abuse.
Thank you to Nikki Buckstead and the entire Child & Family Center team for the work you do to provide shelter, counseling, and support to those who need it most. Together, we can help build a safer, healthier community for everyone in the SCV!

The Angeles National Forest has moved into high state of readiness ahead of the Red Flag and Santa Ana wind conditions expected tomorrow through Saturday.
We augmented available resources to include a strike team of engines from the Eldorado National Forest and two additional dozers.
In addition, the Southern California’s Geographic Coordination Center has prepositioned firefighters throughout the southern half of the state; ready to respond in the event of a wildfire.
In addition to the “First Alarm” response by ground resources (Engine, Crews, Dozers, etc.) our initial response includes a full compliment of aircraft. Today’s photo highlights the aircraft’s available for a “first alarm” response from Angeles’ Fox Field in Lancaster.

@JamesWalkinshaw thought he could handle the heat. Famous last words! 🌶️
See how James holds up when the wings get spicier in the next episode of Capitol Heat, dropping Tuesday, October 13. Watch here: https://t.co/8NiTNkscQD
Heads up, LA! New Burbank Airport terminal opens tomorrow!
"All departing and arriving flights starting Tuesday will operate out of the new 14-gate, 355,000-square-foot terminal that replaces the existing terminal at the nearly 100-year-old airport."
George Whitesides: “You deserve a government that works for you rather than for the richest in our society and also for the corrupt. Right now we have a government that is corruptly working for those groups. It is of paramount importance that we get back to a time where wrongdoing has consequence. We’ve basically been living for two years where people who do wrong don’t suffer a consequence. They get a pardon, they buy a pardon, they don’t get charged by a defanged, corrupt DOJ. We need to get back to a time where if you do something wrong, if you break the law, you’re punished for it”
George Whitesides on Trump’s propaganda ads: “They’re not even pretending this is not political. This is illegal because appropriations law says you can’t use taxpayer money for propaganda. It’s also illegal under the Hatch Act which says that essentially federal employees can’t engage in political activities while they’re being paid by the taxpayer. So many folks in my district were saying what is this? Why are my hard won tax dollars paying for propaganda that’s almost like North Korea in its weird hero worship?”
George Whitesides: “What we have now is a White House that is being run for billionaires. It is so sad to see an administration that is so focused on the super wealthy and so willing to harm everyday folks whether that’s through cutting their health insurance, cutting their food assistance, cutting educational help, cutting virtually every single service that is helpful to working people in this country. We know from top to bottom this is an administration for the big guys, the billionaires, and it’s about time that we have a change”
I was proud to join our future Governor Xavier Becerra, Asm. Pilar Schiavo, and Asm. Jesse Gabriel — as well as leaders from across our district — for a rally in Santa Clarita!
Thank you to everyone who came out, shared what matters to them, and is working to build a stronger future for California. I’ll keep fighting to deliver results for the Antelope, Santa Clarita, and San Fernando Valleys.
Ballots are out, so make a plan to vote and return your ballot before Election Day, November 3rd!
