Press Release: The Korea International Trade Association (KITA)@kita_net and the #AfCFTA Secretariat convened the inaugural Korea-Africa Economic Committee (KAEC) Business Roundtable in Seoul, bringing together leading companies and institutions from Africa and the Republic of Korea to explore cooperation in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, digital trade, and industrial development.

The engagement marks an important step in advancing stronger commercial partnerships and investment cooperation between Africa and the Republic of Korea under the KAEC framework.

During the opening of the 2026 Korea–Africa Business Forum, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, highlighted the evolution of Africa–Korea relations from traditional development cooperation to a strategic partnership driven by trade, investment, industrialisation, and innovation.

In his remarks, he underscored the significant opportunities emerging under the AfCFTA across sectors such as automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals beneficiation, and digital trade, noting that Africa’s integrated market of 1.4 billion people and growing regional value chains present compelling opportunities for Korean businesses.

The Secretary-General further emphasized that the AfCFTA Protocols on Investment and Digital Trade are creating greater certainty, predictability, and market access for investors, strengthening Africa’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

H.E. Mene also called for deeper business-to-business partnerships and increased private sector engagement, reaffirming that Africa is open for business and ready to work with Korea to unlock mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities that drive industrialisation, create jobs, and deliver shared prosperity.

At the Korea–Africa Economic Committee Business Roundtable, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, described the establishment of the Korea–Africa Business Committee as an important step in advancing the outcomes of the 2024 Korea–Africa Summit. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the role of the platform in strengthening engagement between the Korean and African private sectors and translating high-level commitments into tangible trade, investment, and industrial partnerships.

The Secretary-General underscored Africa’s immense potential in manufacturing, critical minerals, green industrialization, and climate-related investments, while reaffirming the continent’s commitment to a rules-based trading system and ongoing efforts to remove trade barriers to facilitate business and investment.

H.E. Mene called on businesses from both regions to seize emerging opportunities and forge durable, commercially viable partnerships. He stressed that, amid growing global uncertainty, Africa and Korea must work together to create greater certainty, expand trade and investment flows, and deliver measurable outcomes that demonstrate the strength, resilience, and value of the partnership.
