I'm a small streamer in the Apex Legends Creator Hub who owns an eSports team called SemperSupra, where we compete in algs.
@PlayApex don't you think the PK is a tad overtuned?
From what I remember it's meant to be the sniper of shotguns, and I'm all for a strong weapon.
But this needs to be rebalanced...
Here's my thoughts on how it could be rebalanced:
1) Reduce the damage from 108 to 90
2) Reintroduce the headshot multiplier so it does up to 126 damage
3) Tighten the fully choked spread
4) Increase the time to fully choke
5) Increase the base fire rate to keep in line or be faster than the mastiff
6) Increase the bullet velocity
This is the most valid take I've seen in a long time, ranked games do indeed feel like a kill race with no rewards for playing for placement and positioning.
For a while I've been calling for a ranked system that makes KP worth more based on when you get it in a match, rather than how much you have at the end of a match, which would give more emphasis on late game kills and smart plays.
Running down a lobby and not even getting top 10 but still gaining points should never be a strat, but here we are anyway.
Apex Legends Ranked has 2 major problems right now in Diamond+
1) KP is still worth way too much RP/Value in Ranked
-Killing the entire lobby is a forced TDM meta
-Respawn ignores that there is also value of killing players like loot, space control, and armor upgrades.
-When players land at a POI their first plan is to find a team to run at to kill or 3rd party (the ring / zone is irrelevant because playing for a win rewards nothing in comparison)
2) Lobbies are incredibly hard to balance due to 60 player games
-the skill difference between players in the upper ranks is so vast that 3 stacks of Pros/Preds will drastically out farm the entire lobby especially in a forced TDM (end the game quick kill meta)
-if players are forced to play for wins/end games then more teams will be alive making it much harder for “stronger” teams to cleanse the lobby early
Forcing Solo Q only in Diamond+ Ranked will 100% help the balancing issue but I think this will have an overall negative affect on the game because it removes the ability of playing with friends/organized teams. The meta will remain the same and lobbies will die out just as fast. Nobody has incentive to rotate / play smart / play for wins. The toxicity/unfun aspect of being forced to play with random teammates is also going to become a normality.
Solo/Duo for Masters+ is probably the best middle ground solution along with the introduction of a Dynamic KP Cap system of lobbies to reward WINNING games
Also we have been asking for Solo or a no-group PUBS mode for years.. where is that?

-naturally you mostly have teams playing for position in the zone that might still take some smart opportunistic fights
-controller legends will actually become viable
-some “edge teams” will still fight for upgrades and space control
-your comp should be picked based on the POI you start at just like real comp
-obviously some teams will ignore this but not ALL teams

Says random drop ships are too random -> now i have to 50/50 for a gun off spawn
Says random drop ships are the reason they lost ranked players as if no other element exists in the game
Says data is too early to tell for new season -> still uses it as a reason its a good change in the next sentence because of increase in player count in A NEW SEASON in only 24 hours

I usually don't post here, but I have to say it.
WTF is going on with @PlayApex removing the drop zone sytem in ranked!
And I don't want to be negative, but if I wanted half my lobby to drop into the hottest POI I don't want it to be in ranked, that is terrible for competitive integrity.
What I will say though is that if you were to do any changes, you should have given teams the option of choosing their POI in the pre-game similarly to how Counter Strike: Danger Zone had done for their drafting system, but of course randomly seed teams into a queue for drop zone selection.
Hell you could even make it so that during the drafting process, players could see the selected legends of each team, their player banners and the drops they choose live as it happens, all so they can get an idea of how to best play around their opponents, in terms of poi drops, rotational options and possible fights.
