The Vuelta goes to Cordoba today, one of its all-time favourite destinations. I photographed the 14 winners in my 30 years on the Vuelta: Leoni, Zberg, Minali, Freire, Bettini, Lastras, Boom, Millar, Bertagnolli, Voskamp, Van Poppel, Degenkolb, Sagan and Boonen...

Stage 11 of La Vuelta is in Murcia today on a route that takes in the winds of Cartagena and the rugged hills of the hinterland. Philippe Gilbert was race-leader here in 2010 on a day won into Lorca by Tyler Farrar.

Maybe a day for the Vuelta's few sprinters today, an around-Valencia stage with a few hills thrown-in..as in 2016. Nairo Quintana led the race overall while Magnus-Cort Nielsen won into Gandia, next door to today's finish in Xeraco.

The Vuelta a España starts on Saturday in Monaco - and why not? It celebrates the victory of Alvaro Pino winning in 1986, Alex Zulle's victory in 1996, Alexander Vinokourov winning in 2006 and, last but not least, the ten years since Nairo Quintana won in 2016...

Today's stage 12 goes to Chalon-sur-Saone where Thierry Marie won a stage of the Tour in 1988. We're in Bourgogne wine-country today and the peloton will pass through the picturesque town of Buxy in the last 15-kilometres...

Le Tour gets back on the road with today's stage 10 to Le Lioran, where Greg Van Avermaet won in 2016; Bastille day will bring out some French escapers, in the style of Richard Virenque and Thomas Voeckler in the 2,000s, the Puy Mary is a Massif Central regular...

Stage 9 of Le Tour takes us within range of the Massif Central on a day of hills and heat... The stage passes Tulle, where Djamolidine Abdujaparov won a hilly stage in 1996 and where Bjarne Riis led the race; Alberto Contador led the race in this region in 2007.

Stage eight of Le Tour runs past stunning French countryside between Perigueux and Bergerac, two cities featured on stage 9 of the 1994 Tour - when Miguel Indurain won a TT into Bergerac. And again in 2014 when Tony Martin won a TT in the opposite direction, into Perigueux...

Carcassonne and its Citadel host the stage 4 start today, followed by hills and heat and a finish in Foix. Kurt-Asle Arvesen won there in 2008, Luis Leon Sanchez won there in 2012...

Today's stage 3 takes the Tour into France via the foothills of the Pyrenees. On a similar stage in the 2009 Tour, Rinaldo Nocentini got into the day's big escape and then into Yellow by the day's end, and kept it for a whole week...

The Tour de France starts this weekend, in and around Barcelona. It allows us to celebrate Greg LeMond winning in 1986, Bjarne Riis winning in 1996, Oscar Pereiro winning in 2006 (after the disqualification of Floyd Landis) and Chris Froome winning in 2016...
