The Dauphiné is on this week, 30 years since Miguel Indurain won in 1996, 20 years since Levi Leipheimer won in 2006 and 10 years since Chris Froome won in 2016 - it was the Dauphiné then and is still 'the Dauphiné' today..!

Verbania is today's destination for the Giro. The peloton will pass by Lake Maggiore before climbing the hills that launched Franco Chioccioli (1992) and Philippe Gilbert (2015) to stage-wins into Verbania. Race-leader Alberto Contador met some fans here in 2015...

The up-coming stage 10 TT in the Giro enables a look-back to 1996 when Evgeni Berzin won the mid-race stage; to 2006 when Jan Ullrich won, and then to 2016 when a young Primoz Roglic won. Neither of them won the overall G.C. that year...

Blimey, the Giro d'Italia starts today - in Bulgaria! I saw Roberto Visentini win forty years ago in 1986, and then Pavel Tonkov winning in 1996. Ivan Basso easily won the 2006 Giro and Vincenzo Nibali won the last Giro I saw, in 2016, taking the lead with just one day to go...
