Happy birthday to my wonderful son. @elonmusk has given me 55 years of joy.
It’s so much fun to celebrate with family and friends.
His cake is a rocket and a moon base 🎂🎂🎉

Elon Musk is the ultimate diamond hands holder of his own companies, there’s really no one anywhere close.
He’s been holding Tesla stock for over two decades, through crashes, people blowing up his stores, and nonstop chaos. In September 2025, he even put $1 billion of his own money into Tesla on the open market, buying ~2.6 million shares when many were saying the company was overvalued. That’s true conviction on his company, his team, and the products they are building. As of 2025, he owns ~15% of Tesla. His original $6.35 million investment in 2004 has grown into well over $100 billion in value, and he only sold meaningfully once in 2022, to fund the acquisition of Twitter (now X), which we now know today was priceless.
But what makes him different from other CEOs is what he did NOT do.
He didn’t cash out to live in mansions and pop bottles with models on an island, like many people would in his position. In fact, between 2020 and 2022, Elon sold all of his seven luxury California homes worth about $130 million and publicly said he would “own no house.”
Today, his personal lifestyle is very minimal.
His main residence is a $50,000 prefab home in Boca Chica, Texas, near SpaceX! Nearly all of his wealth continues to stay locked inside the companies he’s building.
And even when things get scary, like in 2008 when Tesla was on the brink of collapse, he doubles down, never gives up. Production was failing, $ was disappearing, and bankruptcy was just weeks away. Elon then personally put in $20 million of his own cash to keep Tesla alive.
At the same time, SpaceX had suffered three failed launches. He poured the rest of his PayPal fortune, ~$100 million, into SpaceX anyway.
That was an all-in moment. Many were calling him crazy to risk losing it all on a car and rocket company… one of the hardest things to do. Literally, if either company failed, he would’ve been wiped out.
Even today, instead of selling stock when he needs cash, Elon often borrows against his shares. He uses Tesla stock as collateral, preserving ownership and avoiding forced sales. He deep down knows the future worth of his companies and is willing to do everything he can to not sell.
That’s what real diamond hands look like. It’s putting your $ where your mouth is, holding through the FUD, and betting on the future you’re building, despite what the haters and doubters may say.
