My case for @KevinDeBruyne being the best midfielder in Premier League history:

Six Premier League titles (2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24) as of April 2025. More than Gerrard’s zero, Lampard’s three, More in less years than Scholes’ 11 spread over 20 years, or Vieira’s three with Arsenal.

In 2017-18, he was the engine behind City’s 100-point campaign—first team to ever hit that mark in the Premier League—with 16 assists, snagging the inaugural Playmaker of the Season award.

Then 2019-20: 20 assists, tying Thierry Henry’s single-season record, plus 13 goals, earning him his first Player of the Season nod.

Fast forward to 2021-22—15 goals, 8 assists, another Player of the Season award, his second, putting him in elite company with Henry, Ronaldo, and Vidic as multiple winners. Lampard nabbed it once (2004-05), Scholes never, Gerrard once (2005-06), Vieira never.

When facing Real Madrid in the knockouts across three of the last four seasons, scoring each time, including a rocket in the 2022-23 semis and a key equalizer in 2023-24.

Winning, assisting, scoring.. you’d be hard-pressed to find a more complete midfielder in the history of the game.

And when it comes to the Premier League.. Kevin de Bruyne is one of one.
