We can come to know ourselves and other human beings well only when we cannot easily exit relationships with them. We often feel trapped in such relationships. But they are a condition of our freedom from dishonesty about ourselves and ignorance of others.
Instead of just bashing people for believing what they do, I’ve found it helpful to ask what about the belief appeals to them, meets a need they have, resonates, or address a frustration. Listening often opens doors to persuasion. Attacking leads to defensiveness and hardening.
How is it possible that the gospel should be credible...? I am suggesting that the only answer, the only hermeneutic of the gospel, is a congregation of men and women who believe it and live by it.

This weekend we commission the Lemen's, as Matt Lemen is being appointed as Lead Pastor of a Foursquare Church in Oregon. I am excited for them, although I will miss them deeply. Sunday afternoon we have 20+ baptisms scheduled, & then back to teach NCBI
