☢️#278. Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die, 2026. #SamRockwell at his full rockwellness is perhaps a rockwell too far, but I still enjoyed this sloppy time traveling romp. Flashbacks (and forwards) break up a fairly nonsensical mission to save the world from itself. Nutso fun! 3.5/5 ☢️
@Thedocbot Glad you made it out. Wasn’t playing near me. I try to get out and support releases not based on existing ip. I wish more A list directors attempt things like this with original screenplays
Welp, once again the functionality on ex-twitter has been goobered up (search useless, cut and paste won’t work). I’m going to take a break and see if it improves. In the meantime I’m committed to catching up on some review recommendations. See you guys soon🤘
☢️#257, Terminus, 1987. You will believe a van can have lips. That’s right, this bizarre dystopian auto-action film stars a wisecracking super-van with very disturbing animatronic rubber lips. Some cool props/stunts. Oh, and #KarenAllen + the kid from #Robocop2 are in it. 2/5 ☢️
☢️#256, Surf Nazis Must Die, 1987. History’s greatest titled b-movie fumbles on execution. A few quotables and a fun revenge subplot don’t quite salvage from the randomly edited lo-budget plotless stinker we are ultimately presented with. But still…great damn title. 2/5 ☢️
@MaxxFeral Y. My wife surfs and I have gone out myself many times (poorly). Not a fan of surfers in general (many exceptions). No nazis so far, but dudes seem to be macho and dumb (also many exceptions). Haha
@patrixilent It’s best the first time going in blind. Without that, the set up drags for sure. but all the same it’s a nicely constructed ride and a satisfying watch (perhaps only once - haha).
☢️#255, The Cabin in the Woods, 2011. While the snarky meta-humor may offend some horror purists, ultimately this is a good natured tribute deftly juxtaposing bureaucratic mundanity with nightmare fueled thrills. Be prepared wear out that pause button in the third act! 4/5 ☢️
@Fruitbat_44 Not sure we disagree. Think we both landed fairly middling. I may have sounded positive since I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy sell to the uninitiated. Not great, but worth a watch
☢️#254 , Black Crab , 2022. Trading #Aliens for ice skates #NoomiRapace is a mother on a mission in a #postapocalyptic war zone where the only way out is across miles of literal thin ice. Haunting and brutal with gorgeous arctic cinematography. 3.5/5 ☢️
☢️#253 After the End, 2017. Why go on a epic #postapocalyptic journey when a light jaunt on a ten speed bicycle will do? Impressively executed on a shoestring budget, this coming of age tale is refreshing in its simplicity and mellow vibe, but ultimately a bit too timid. 3/5 ☢️
@patrixilent There were some planned (but abandoned) shots of returning to SF to find it bird occupied. Golden Gate Bridge etc. wish they’d finished it. Think it’d feel more complete
☢️#252 The Birds, 1963. The cinematic equivalent of a schoolyard bully pulling pigtails, #Hitchcock thrills in torturing his advance spurning starlet #TippiHenden. Nonetheless a damn fun watch. And as far as the #apocalyptic ambiguity, I’m calling this one for #TheBirds. 4/5 ☢️
☢️#251 Robot Holocaust, 1987. Despite adorable rubber suits (blowup doll C-3PO anyone?) and laughable creature FX, this #postapocalyptic#scifi with #fantasy trappings is a slog. #Sobaditsgood in its own right, I still suspect I should’ve opted for the #MST3K treatment. 1.5/5 ☢️
