His name is King Sha'mar Overton. He was a nine-year-old child from Richmond, Virginia, described by family as “funny, witty, and full-of-life.”

King died at a Henrico County swim camp on June 15, and the timeline surrounding the child’s death has left his mother, LaTaisha Johnson, with unanswered questions.

King’s camp group went swimming for one hour. He was pulled, unresponsive, from the bottom of the pool twenty minutes after his session ended. The workers at SwimRVA don’t even know if he drowned during the swim lesson.

Johnson said when she dropped her son off that morning, a staff member told her that King was "in the right place for swimming lessons," and she "didn’t have to worry." The next time she saw King, he was full of water.

This mother sent her child to swim camp to learn how to swim, but he drowned because the teachers weren’t paying attention. We will continue to support King Overton’s family until they receive answers, accountability, and justice.

As a DC9 union painter with 30+ years in coatings, I’m looking at the failure not a conspiracy theory.
When a coating is lifting off in large sheets like this, that points to an adhesion failure: improper surface preparation, contamination left behind, the wrong coating system, poor recoat timing, or water introduced before the system fully cured.

A quality two-part epoxy system can perform well but the product is only as good as the prep and application. The substrate has to be properly profiled/cleaned, the specified primer or first coat applied correctly, recoat windows followed, and the full system allowed to cure before being put back into service.

That is not “vandals.” That is a coating failure that deserves a real independent inspection and an explanation of exactly what system was specified and how it was applied.
