Saludos!
Scientists appear to have crossed a significant boundary in biology.
A research team at the University of Minnesota has constructed a synthetic cell using only non living chemical components. This cell can take in nutrients grow replicate its genetic material divide and sustain reproduction through multiple generations. The researchers named it SpudCell.
According to the team this represents the first synthetic cell capable of completing a full cell cycle. Under appropriate conditions it absorbs nutrients increases in size duplicates its genome and produces daughter cells. The process can continue for approximately five generations.
This achievement advances one of the central ambitions in biology constructing life like systems entirely from basic chemical building blocks.
SpudCell however does not qualify as fully alive in the conventional sense like bacteria plants or animals. The cell remains extremely minimal consisting of roughly 150 to 200 molecules compared to the billions found in natural cells. It lacks the ability to produce its own proteins requiring ongoing external supply and maintenance. Division occurs roughly every 12 hours when maintained at 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius with provided materials.
For context common bacteria such as E coli can divide approximately every 30 minutes.
The development holds importance because the cell composition is entirely known and documented. This transparency could facilitate more precise engineering of biological systems.
Looking ahead synthetic cells might be engineered for applications such as targeted drug delivery cancer treatment environmental cleanup carbon sequestration or production of valuable materials. They could also contribute to answering fundamental questions about the minimal requirements for life.
Scientific opinion remains split on whether SpudCell qualifies as a living organism. Some researchers consider it closer to life than any previous synthetic construct while others view it as too reliant on human intervention to meet traditional definitions of life.

@ibzfx76@Pontifex_es "perdonar dice jesus
