After watching the episode about #Sunsoft made by @dark1x I decided to make my own version of #Batman Return of Joker for the #MegaDrive. Of course, it could be much better if made by a real #pixelartist#pixelart. But I would have been happy to play this in the 90s.
** Sega Genesis EBH Update **
One of the well used special effect techniques for Semi Rotation of graphics over the years is to use the vertical scrolling offsets along with some horizontal skew with the horizontal scrolling offsets to semi rotate objects - called a tilt normally.
Normally the Sega Genesis has 20 vertical scrolling offsets you can set, so that means a unique vertical offset every 16 pixels over 320 pixels of screen width. This limits the amount of tilt you can do before things start to break up badly .
Horizontally we have 224 offsets , but vertically only 20 so it limits things normally. What if it you could vertical scroll every 4 pixels instead of 16 however ? So 80 offsets in total vertically , what could you do ?
Also what if you could tilt two objects at the same time on the same background plane ?
Well you could do Tilts with finely detailed graphics and they would look pretty great even when tilted quite a bit !
No animation , no extra frames , just some cpu / vdp trickery .
Gameplay yet to be fine tuned but for those that thought the sword was a gimmick - No its not - haha .
Theres a bit of cpu involved to get the tilt working to this degree for both Battleships so we do get to about 88 % cpu in this scene with 170 + bullets also. 60 FPS locked as usual .
Stay tuned - EBH will push the Genesis hard !!

After several months of hard work and very sad because of the train tragedy in Spain we release beta 0.4 of Mega Pang for Mega Drive / Genesis. https://t.co/nPl3mRQRuD

Legend of Xanadu patch is released! This has been years in the making. So glad someone didn't come by and slop this up with AI hahah.
Anyway, I imported this game when it came out.. it was tough (I couldn't translate much at all).. but I loved it. And finished the game (that last tower is brutal).
I can't wait to play this again in English. Hopefully we get a French translation too.

@turboxray@yoshinokentarou And better music; even the SNES version can't beat the original NES version
A Super CD-ROM game with TIS music arranged soundtrack could make it stand out
I imagine it: since it's a tile animation to mimic parallax, the only way to make it smooth (without using black magic like you) , which is increasing the amount of animation thats going to tax the ROM size. It's legit, and they could be launched an enhanced port to super cd rom as you said.
Nice see it running this way, better now than never.
Elfmania for Amiga (Terramarque/1994).
This game pulls 32-color/parallax on Amiga 500, a rare feat, looks gorgeous (most A500 games are in 16-color mode + injected copper colors compensating).
But this costs everything else, as character frame data is 10% of Street Fighter 2, according to analysis by RetroRic. I dislike it, despite how much of an Amiga enthusiast I am.
Bottom line: on A500 you can have top tech wizardry at the cost of most of your game, or you can tone down and have a more playable result. That's why A1200 is a homebrew favorite: with some love you can actually have room for both gameplay AND looks (on A500 too tbh, but it takes so long that risks stalling a project).
