Celebrating Iri Ji Afọ 2026 with the Mbaukwu Community

It was a privilege to join His Royal Majesty, Igwe P.N. Anugwu JP, OFR (Ezeukwu Mbaukwu), and the people of Mbaukwu yesterday in celebrating the Iri Ji Afọ 2026 (New Yam Festival).

Last year, the same community, through the traditional ruler, honoured me with the chieftaincy title "Ada Dezulu Mba" in recognition of my work in the National Assembly to serve my constituents. As Ada Obizi, I hold this trust sacred and remain steadfast in my commitment to our people and our heritage.

Our culture is the bedrock of our identity and future. Let us continue to celebrate our festivals, speak our language with pride, and transmit the values of gratitude, unity, and resilience to the generations ahead.

Earlier today, I had the privilege of joining the St. Gabriel Catholic Church Community in Okpuno to welcome His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus C. Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, during his Pastoral Visit to the parish. It was a moment of deep spiritual significance as the Bishop presided over the Sacrament of Confirmation and dedicated the newly completed Church Hall, a landmark that will serve generations to come.

The atmosphere was filled with joy, reverence, and gratitude as parishioners, families, and community leaders gathered to celebrate this milestone. The Bishop’s homily reminded us of the enduring strength of our faith and the importance of building both spiritual and physical structures that unite and uplift the people. It was truly a day of renewal, dedication, and communal pride for Okpuno and the wider Awka Diocese.

On Sunday, 30th August 2026, I was at Awka City Stadium for the official kick‑off of the second edition of the Anambra State Football League. Watching our young talents take to the pitch filled me with pride and renewed conviction that sports remain one of the strongest tools for youth empowerment.

After which I proceeded to Community Primary School Amawbia for the Final of the 2026 Amawbia August Unity Cup. It was another inspiring moment, seeing grassroots football thrive and communities come together in unity and celebration.

These experiences reaffirm my belief that sports are more than just games. They are platforms for discipline, teamwork, and the nurturing of future leaders. I wish all players, clubs, and organizers continued success as they showcase their talents and strengthen the bonds of unity across Anambra State.

Yesterday, 28th August 2026, as a proud alumnus of the prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, I had the honour of attending the UNIZIK Alumni Converge 2.0, held under the theme: “Uniting UNIZIK Alumni for Impact, Legacy, and Global Excellence.” The event, hosted at the site of the ongoing Alumni Building project, brought together scholars, professionals, and distinguished alumni whose journeys were shaped within the walls of UNIZIK.

I was delighted to be honoured with the Giant of Honour Award, a recognition that deeply humbles me and strengthens my resolve to continue in service and leadership. Standing among fellow alumni, I felt the weight of our collective responsibility to uphold the values instilled by our alma mater.

This convergence inspires a fresh determination to deepen connections, nurture enduring legacies, and project the values of Nnamdi Azikiwe University onto the global stage. Together, we carry the torch of UNIZIK, and with renewed dedication, we will transform our shared heritage into a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Yesterday, I joyfully joined the Nibo community (Ụmụ Ezeike) in celebrating its Iri Ji Afọ 2026 (New Yam Festival) at the Nibo Civic Centre. With deep respect and admiration, I extend warm felicitations to His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Sir MC Ngene, JP, KSQ, MNIM (Ezeike IV of Nibo), whose custodianship of culture continues to inspire generations.

As Ada Obizi and a representative of our people in the National Assembly, I remain deeply committed to preserving and promoting our indigenous traditions. Our culture is not a relic of the past; it is the foundation of our future. It teaches us gratitude, unity, resilience, and respect for community.

Let us continue to honour our festivals, speak our language with pride, and pass on the wisdom of our ancestors to the next generation. In doing so, we not only preserve our culture but also strengthen our identity.
