My Hero Academia creator, Kohei Horikoshi is officially back, and he is trading superheroes for horror! 👀

The creator of My Hero Academia will publish a new 61-page one-shot titled Warawanaide yo Shijima-san, unofficially translated as Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san. It will appear in Weekly Shonen Jump’s combined Issue 37–38, releasing on August 10, 2026.

Described as a “boy-meets-girl horror” story, the manga will receive a center-color page and introduce a new protagonist and heroine. This will be Horikoshi’s first published one-shot since My Hero Academia concluded in August 2024.

After spending a decade building a world of superheroes, villains, and Quirks, Horikoshi is now exploring a completely different genre. With his talent for expressive characters, unsettling imagery, and detailed creature designs, horror could be the perfect direction for his return.

Could this one-shot eventually become Horikoshi’s next full manga series? 🤔
