#NickCrafts & the importance of history in understanding economic performance - a @voxeu tribute to the most distinguished British economic historian of his generation by four of his friends & colleagues https://t.co/x5hARfszRt
@stianwestlake@amirrkermani At quick glance it looks like this is based on data on capitalised assets. Given accounting standards like ias38, this may then only hold for ultra high quality intangible spending that passes stringent cap tests.
Nick Crafts' death has robbed Economic History of a clear thinker, an outstanding researcher, an excellent writer, a committed teacher and a wonderful colleague and mentor. @EcHistSoc

The business sector resumed its role as main driver of R&D growth in 2021, while R&D in gov't and higher education came to a virtual standstill.

@stianwestlake@kieronflanagan@JoshMartin_econ I can confirm that there are no plans for a whosale revision to Busines RD figs for indiv OECD countries in the short to medium term other than changes to the UK figs once made official by ONS and reviewed by us. The rev Oecd aggregate will reflect the rev Uk figures.
@stianwestlake@kieronflanagan@JoshMartin_econ Several Qs that merit thoughtful discussion thru inf + formal channels, but let me underscore 1) how critical is that data users ask producers the hard questions & 2) invoke for international stats the A.Karenina principle on how all unhappy families are unhappy in their own way.
