Check out my selfie! 66,9 meters tall may not seem much today, but until 1749 I was the tallest building in #Istanbul. I still think I am the most charming though. 😉
If you happen to come to my deck when the sun sets, you will be astounded by the 360-degree view as Istanbul's skyline lights up and the sun disappears. When you see the view, you'll understand why marriage proposals happen here almost daily. 🤩
I was originally built as a watchtower but I had very different purposes over the years. I served as a prison, a fire observatory and now I’m proud to be called one of the most iconic landmarks of the city.
The legend says that whomever you climb me with, you are destined to marry. So it’s a tradition today, where many people who believe that they found their one true love queue up to climb my stairs. #ValentinesDay2020
Hi I’m the Galata Tower, I’ve been in this spot looking out over Istanbul for 600 years (give or take). I like to think I’m an essential part of the Istanbul experience, I hope you do too.
