@gallowayglens@EadhaAspen@BordersForest@WoodlandTrust A quick visit to our specimen tree today and she's sprouting leaves but no blossom yet...pan right and low and behold, we missed the mothership! A beautiful crab apple tree! So relieved to finally put this mystery to bed...

We are very pleased that Vicky Johnson will be joining GFT for 12 weeks under the 'Working With Rivers' trainee placement scheme.
We look forward to working with Vicky on a range of GFT projects over the next 3 months!

We're improving riparian habitat along the Piltanton Burn, near Stranraer, by fencing and planting native trees thanks to the Nature Restoration Fund (NatureScot). This area supports important sea trout and lamprey populations and we hope to improve water quality and temperature
Fantasic rainbow moment as Kacie, Dan and Phil plant more deciduous trees today on the Cree catchment.
In the future these trees will provide vital dappled shading along the watercourse, to the benefit of an array of aquatic species throughout the summer heat.
Kacie has been checking her cameras at gravel addition sites on the Black Water of Dee. This monitoring helps us understand how floods are washing the gravel into the river and plan future work.
She's had great photos already, a heron fishing, a trout angler and a skinny dipper!
Great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in the fisheries sector!
We have a 6 month paid internship available (18-25 years old) funded by The Holywood Trust and the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Recently itโs been all hands on deck to get lots of deciduous trees planted on the Tarf and the Luce to future-proof the waterways against climate change by providing dappled shade to keep the water cool. Nearly 1000 trees planted so far! @nature_scot#Biodiversitychallengefund
We met with @StoryContractng and @IKMConsulting on the Dalmakether Burn - Annan to discuss practical mitigation measures to protect fish and water quality during the replacement of a railway culvert and substrate management work. We caught a Brook lamprey while surveying the site
The latest blog post from Abbie our fisheries intern is up on our website. See what sheโs been getting up to over the last few months

On the 3rd March our very own Dr Samantha Beck will be joining @gallowayglens to discuss an exciting new project to track Atlantic salmon smolts from Polmaddy to Kirkcudbright Bay, which will reveal the challenges and conundrums the smolts will face on this journey. Sign up now!
If you were a fish you would be unlikely to have a twitter account. You would however be interested in migration. Join us in the river to find out more.

A favourite from our video archives is @Galloway_FT electrofishing on the upper Dee, including a clip on identification of young Salmon&Trout.

This week Jamie checked the fish pass at the Loups of Dalnigap.ย The pass was built in 1911 to allow salmon and sea trout easy access into the upper 7 km of the Luce.ย Over hundred years later and it is still working effectively!
The Luce District Salmon Fishery Board AGM will take place at 4pm on the 9th December 2020.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held by zoom.ย Contact [email protected] for an agenda and details on joining the meeting.
We would like to thank @coopuk Newton Stewart and their customers for this very generous donation. This will support our work with volunteers throughout Galloway
@Galloway_FT Congrats! We heard youโve just received a Payout from Co-opโs Local Community Fund. Join the virtual celebrations here https://t.co/Ly8QIng5ah Weโd love to know how this money will make a difference in your community #ItsWhatWeDo
@Deeboy19751@OFiggis DRAX now provide targeted freshets in the summer to assist salmon migration below Tongland. It is a difficult ladder, however a tagging project previously showed that in the right conditions salmon accessed the ladder ok.
We had a chilly meeting today with @Draxnews discussing the transportation of surplus gravel from the Deugh to the Black Water of Dee (BWD) below Clatteringshaws Dam. The added gravel will enhance instream habitats and improve salmonid spawning habitat on the Black Water of Dee.
Malzie Burn Improvement works 2019/20. 1,400m of fencing to prevent bank-side grazing, ~ 2000 deciduous trees planted to provide shade and woody debris, and 100s of boulders into degraded sections. Thank you to the landowners involved and @nature_scot biodiversity challenge fund
