On our most recent trip to The Gambia, the orthopaedic surgeons treated this boy who had a lower limb varus deformity. These deformities can be secondary to bone diseases like Rickets.

On our recent trip, the team treated a young boy who had suffered significant burns. He had significant skin contractures and loss of function of his arm.
The team operated to straighten out his arm, performing a number of skin grafts to help regain some function in the limb.
Former footballer receives incredible life-changing knee surgery from Gam Med Team!
Restoring lost hope, A Gambian man has received an incredible life-changing operation on his knee after a knee deformity he had been battling for years. A team of medical professionals treated him, including surgeons from Gambia and the United Kingdom, during a Gam Med team visit to Gambia.
Gam Med is a UK medical charity helping to improve health care in Gambia.
“ On our recent trip to the Gambia, the team operated on this man who’d had a previous football injury as a teenager, which had resulted in a knee deformity. The surgeons operated to straighten out his leg and correct the deformity,” the group says in a media update about its recent trip to Gambia.
Following on from our post a couple of days ago…. here is a video of one of our patients walking pre and post surgery.
This patient had a football injury in his teenage years which led to a malunion of his distal femur and causing a knee deformity.

2 weeks ago, the Gam Med team treated this 12 year old boy who’d previously had part of his tibia removed following a bone infection in his left leg. The Gam Med surgeons did a fibula transplant. Two weeks on, he is doing very well in his recovery and making great progress!!
The Gam Med team have landed back in the UK after a fantastic week in The Gambia.
