Ham Radio isn’t an entertainment based hobby, but a hobby about growing. Amateur radio can be fun, yes, but it’s more about becoming involved in the science of wireless communications. It might seem like old technology, but in reality everything is based on radio technology.

@K0LWC The ARRL is absolutely needed! All of the comments saying, “what has the ARRL done in the last ten years,” is an incredible ignorant statement. We are talking about a 100+ year old organization! If the ARRL went away, the enemies to the Ham hobby would begin to destroy it.

Thoughts on this? If we want new people in Ham Radio, how should we act online? If folks aren't licensed then they probably don't know what listening to the airwaves is like, all they see is our behavior online.

We need to make sure we're putting out the right attitude about our hobby to people who aren't talking with us on the air. #hamradio

I feel that Ham Radio, is unlike any other hobby or entertainment medium. So, when I see operators talking about how smartphone and gaming are impeding the hobby for youths, I just roll my eyes. #hamradio #amatureradio

@K0LWC Sadly Ham Radio is competing with everything else.
I feel that the problem, is that Ham-Radio is being advertising as a entertainment hobby, and not by what it truly is, and that is a scientific endeavor for those of us who geek out about things like frequency propagation.

@K0LWC Why would anyone, with a limited income, give up their gaming hobby for several months, just to purchase a piece of equipment that (seemingly) is outdated technology. Also, you need a license to operate it.
Between, limited money and limited time, Ham Radio asks a lot.

@K0LWC When you consider these things along with, most younger people not getting paid a living wage, paired with computers and networked videos games, that already offer global communications, for a fraction of the price of Ham-Radio.

@K0LWC Back in those days, a personal PC was going for about $1100. All technology has become astronomically cheaper, over the last 40 years, but Ham-Radio is slightly cheaper. Meanwhile, houses, cars, food, and medical cost have skyrocketed to unbelievable amounts.
