Can Kendrick Perkins act? no. but was his analysis good? also no. and were his ball takes compelling? not really. but was he funny? also no. but did i enjoy his halftime commentary? again, no. but would i watch more of him? also no.
I work downtown. I work in criminal justice. It’s nothing like this article portrays. The only people “scared” are conservatives like Carl Mumpower. Still, don’t move here. Cost of living is too damn high. That’s the real issue this article should be highlighting.
Idk why but I’ve always thought that Chris was so raw for smoking that cigarette. Like all the steroids pale in comparison to ripping a cig in terms of coolness.
Mario Kart World’s criticisms have been overstated. I think people forget about how Mario Kart 8 was at launch for the Wii U. Like the battle mode sucking, all the koopalings and babies, Pink Gold Peach. World is a much better start. The price is still unreasonable.
Played a lot of really great games this year, some for the first time. There wasn’t a single one I played this year that I didn’t enjoy. Have a little thread to highlight my thoughts. 🧵
Final Fantasy 3 and 5 were games I struggled with because I suck at job systems. 5 makes up for it with a solid narrative and music. The game feels a bit sillier compared to 4 and 6 but its dramatic moments still hit well. I liked it more this time. 3 felt about the same.
I feel like Metaphor Re:Fantazio’s story was hampered by the Atlus “social link” structure for its character development. It works in a game like Persona, but in this game, these characters would’ve been better served by having their stories be part of the overall narrative.
Donkey Kong Bananza is the best Donkey Kong game out there by far. It’s also a technical marvel how they were able to make all those levels destructible with no serious performance issues. A totally underrated part of Nintendo’s development teams? Their dedication to polish.
As a Final Fantasy fan, I really wanted to love Crisis Core Reunion but maybe the remake wasn’t the best way to play it? I just couldn’t get into the gameplay loop and some of the cutscenes just felt…off? Like I can see why people enjoyed it, I wish I did as much as them.
Playing The Last of Us 2 while watching the show’s second season highlighted for me that for some video game narratives to work, gameplay is necessary. I don’t think the season 2 was as bad as I’ve seen others claim, but the game is still the definitive experience.
Obviously I’ve sung Expedition 33’s praises all year but I would say my biggest surprise was Alan Wake 2. I had played the first one years ago on the 360, but 2 blows it out of the water. Phenomenal storytelling, visuals, music and engaging gameplay!
