@aro_arox@kusunokat Do I have to name every FE game I don't think is a good starting point? I think do think Engage is probably too "different" too just because its made to be an anniversary game for the franchise and the Emblem Rings stuff won't have any impact on a newer player at all.
@kusunokat And I really loved the Ace Attorney parts, so it turned me into an Ace Attorney fan, I bought and played other Ace Attorney games. I HATED the Professor Layton parts and have never played another one since. Its very possible to do this with FETH but it isnt as easy imo.
@kusunokat I think that thats mostly true, I think if you don't like 3H's mission combat then you probably won't like any other FE, but I do think that the monastery itself is a big blockade to that.
My first Ace Attorney or Professor Layton game was Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton-
@kusunokat Also I appreciate the apology, for the record I wouldn’t say I hate 3H and I definitely liked it a lot at launch but as time goes on it ages worse and worse in my mind. I never liked the monastery much but now I dread it. Every classic FE I play after 3H I like way more than it.
@kusunokat I mean the game definitely has an impact on the series and unfortunately FW looks like more of that. At some point I think FE3H will unfortunately be the default starting point if this continues, or even a “second” FE entirely. But I don’t think we are there yet.
@aro_arox@kusunokat You are the first person in this thread to bring up Engage, I don’t think Engage is a good starting point either, your opinions are trained on Twitter discourse and I can tell because of you trying to shove 3H vs Engage into this conversation
@kusunokat Okay but the thing is you don’t go from battle to battle, preparation inbetween battles is a big part of the series, the monastery is just an extreme example of that. Just imagining going from battle to battle isn’t accurate to the experience.
@kusunokat I don’t know how to explain to you that series have gameplay mechanics that come and go and that’s fine but that the monastery is an example of a unique gameplay mechanic that completely changes the pacing of the entire game in a way that changes the entire fundamental experience
@kusunokat Pair up is an active gameplay mechanic that is baked into how you play and by nature of how it works can be done effortlessly and thoughtlessly without compromising the game’s pacing
The Monastery isn’t just a gameplay mechanic in battles, how would it ever be the same???
@kusunokat That is literally entirely skippable if you want, like you can even do the S ranks and still just not go to the levels to recruit the children even. The monastery has required content at times. Not even to mention the timesink comparison if you do engage with both features fully.
@kusunokat People on Twitter talk like they don’t know what a video game is it’s so insufferable. Yeah pair-up and the monastery are comparable mechanics. Three Houses has really ruined the mental state of the entire fanbase.
@kusunokat There is nothing in any of those games that is comparable to how reliant Three Houses as an experience is to the monastery.
Also quit using anecdotal evidence man I know people who played FETH and hated the monastery and didn’t try another one, it literally doesn’t matter.
@kusunokat It changes the entire flow of the game, you should not be starting with the most different game in the franchise because you will form an opinion based around those differences no matter how much you try to ignore it when thinking about the other games you haven’t played
@kusunokat Someone new to FE can’t just imagine what FE is like without a feature that takes up like half of your gameplay time, you’re being disingenuous bc you yourself already know what it’s like
