For me…I do feel that Pokemon is in a weird state where the community is very much split.
I do also think that Pokemon Champions will change things forever…Austin John plays suggested that competitive battles might be removed from core games moving forward, allowing for more creative freedom and experimentation on core games.
Whilst I wasn’t the biggest fan of Legends Arceus because of the direction it went in, I do agree that Pokemon games do need to move forward and be more progressive.
I genuinely hope that the Pokemon company continue to cater to both sides of the argument, as a die hard Pokemon fan I will always prefer the classic turn based Pokemon battles…for me, this IS the charm and soul of Pokemon and without being too dramatic, I don’t want imagine a world where the classic turn based style of Pokemon is lost forever…in place of real time movement in battles.
Both styles need to co exist.
@ModernWarzone@HeyImAlaix I literally don’t understand why potentially changing the name of a POI makes any sense when all that fans want is OG Verdansk…
A brilliant video which I encourage all to watch.
My initial thoughts from this video as follows.
- I do agree that Champions will change the face of Pokemon forever, and I do see Competitive Pokemon be it at a professional/casual level, being played through Champions rather than through the core game that’s out at that time.
I do class myself as a very traditional Pokemon player, and I have to be honest and say that the new styles that we’ve seen in Legends Arceus & ZA aren’t personally my “thing”.
However I do feel that these changes are necessary to help move the franchise forward to where it arguably NEEDS to go.
- Austin mentions that a huge frustration for players is the “in between generational Pokemon” where Pokemon games are released but the Pokemon themselves cannot be used competitively for some time after.
Whilst I agree that this is frustrating, this might not necessarily be any different for Pokemon Champions.
Austin mentions that he expects all 1025 to NOT be available at launch for Champions which I agree with, however…the continued frustration that we might then feel is…how frequent will future updates be to add the Pokemon that we want to use?
- Seeing a Mega Evolution going up against a Terra Pokemon was amazing to see, and it immediately made me think about Dynamaxing! Which Is a mechanic that I feel is hugely underrated and so fun.
I think what’s so interesting about this is that all Pokémon battles will feel truly unique, instead of just having the same “Meta” teams going up against each other.
- My thoughts on Rental Pokemon is it could go either way and tbh I would be happy with a combination of both.
Not everyone knows how to build a Pokemon that has “perfect stats” and some players won’t be interested either, so I hope players are given the choice.
I also think that Rental Pokemon WILL NOT be able to be used for competitive battles and instead, will only be able to be used to play against the CPU similarly to how it was in Pokemon stadium.
In addition to that, I hope that we get plenty of challenges to grind for to incentivize us to play for longer for both casual players who wish to just play against CPU’s and competitive players looking to test themselves against the very best.
