As I stated in July when this first popped up, no issue with Ole Miss—or any school—enforcing a contract.
The issue was with Keith Carter naming the players publicly in an interview. And now this the week of the game? Continues to show how small and petty he is.
He looked foolish for believing Kiffin would stay when the entire world knew he was leaving. Now he’s trying to act tough to impress his sympathetic fanbase. Weak.

As Alabama’s 2016 team leveled the competition, it became increasingly clear that offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was ready to take his next career step. The only question was which school, if any, was willing to take a chance on him.
Off-field concerns hung over Kiffin’s entire time in Tuscaloosa. In 2015, rumors of Kiffin being fired for an affair became so prominent that they even made TMZ. In the story, TMZ reported, “Kiffin’s name is blowing up on social media today . . . over completely unverified rumors that Kiffin was involved in an affair with a high-profile Alabama lady. One of the rumors was that the alleged banging set off head coach Nick Saban.”
While Kiffin would not be fired for “banging,” off-field behavior did reach Saban’s desk. It led Saban to tell at least one staff member to give Kiffin some helpful advice.
“You’ve got to keep Lane away from the girls that are in college,” Saban said, according to one former coach. “Just keep him away from the sorority girls. Make sure they’ve graduated college or are working a job.”

You have a lot to learn about @Lane_Kiffin before you can professionally cover him. Don’t trust and damn sure verify. @NealMcCready may offer a crash course.
Lane Kiffin did exactly what you asked @colecubelic. Verge Ausberry granted that wish too - he even asked Kiffin to stay with Ole Miss through the playoffs. Kiffin tried every tactic he could to try to continue coach at Ole Miss through the playoffs short of turning down a once in a lifetime opportunity - even some tactics I’m not in fond of.
Ole Miss refused. Ole Miss didn’t allow that to happen under any circumstances unless he signed an extension with Ole Miss. Ole Miss did not allow “hold on LSU I’ll come later.”
Ole Miss was only going to allow him to coach if the extension was signed - which would take the LSU job off the table.
Was getting key players to accept money to “opt out” and coaches to get on the plane today Nick Saban’s idea or Pete Carroll’s idea ?
LSU knew this was going to happen bc they sent 2 planes.
Truth is LSU is so desperate they will do whatever he asks or wants. It at least took 1 winning season to get Ole Miss to drop our pride. This starts Day 1 in Baton Rouge. I get it. Everyone is using each other. This guy was created and enabled. OM is just one party complicit in that.
@stephenasmith as a former athlete at Ole Miss when we host the playoff game, I would love to host you and show around Oxford, I bet you will change your mind. Give me a follow and let’s get it together. @Lane_Kiffin@OleMissFB@FirstTake

In 2020, at the end of his final year at Pitt, Damar Hamlin organized a toy drive for kids in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Pa. This is the young man who went down on the field tonight in Cincinnati. He is a man; not a number on a jersey. Prayers for Damar.
