Did you know that A&W Restaurants Arubane Bay SE is donating $2 from every combo purchased today to support the family of the little child who tragically drowned last week.
I grateful to stop by for lunch today in support of this thoughtful and compassionate cause.
It is truly heartwarming to see local businesses and community members coming together during such a difficult time for the family.

The strength of a strong peaceful society is not the absence of conflict, but its power to endure, rise above it, and still choose unity over division.

Our YES Youth Centre team is so grateful to connect with Samita, an amazing local pizza shop owner who is stepping up to support our youth in a meaningful way ๐๐พ๐
What started as volunteering to help us serve lunch at the community centre to kids during their school lunch time has grown into something even more powerful.
Together, we will be creating a hands-on initiative where youths can step into a real kitchen, learn how to make pizza, and gain real life experience all while being introduced to entrepreneurship work.
This partnership is creating opportunities for youth ages 15โ22 to develop skills, build confidence, and explore employment in a supportive, real-world setting.
In addition, Samita will be offering a slice pizza to each kids and teen that will be joining us for the RC program this Sunday.

Zoe surprised me yesterday with this lovely birthday cake she made.
She made it for both Nancy and me, which made it even more special.
But the crayon candles and the counting absolutely took me out ๐

Thankful to the Almighty for another year around the sun.
My heart is full with gratitude for the love, support, guidance, and lessons Iโve received from each of you. Every word, every act of kindness, and every moment of mentorship meant so much.
Today is truly a blessed day full with reflection and one Iโm incredibly thankful to celebrate as I look onto new year with hope and optimism.

As we conclude this yearโs YES Centre Christmas Kindness Initiative, we would like to take a moment to reflect and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this effort possible.
Overall, our volunteers worked tirelessly yesterday to support up to 500 families, guided by compassion, dignity, and a strong sense of community.
To our incredible volunteers: Thank you for showing up day after day, and especially to the dedicated volunteers who stayed late into the night yeserday! Some packing gifts until 6:00 AM. Your commitment truly embodied the elves and Santa spirit that brought this initiative to life.
Special thanks to Santa Dan from Dover, who generously gave his time and energy to bring smiles, laughter, and joy to children and families during this special season.
We also acknowledge the challenging cold weather, which required us to adjust plans on the spot. Opening indoor space to protect families from the cold changed our setup, and at times resulted in toys on display being redistributed or lost from tables as we prioritized safety and warmth for everyone.
We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by families and volunteers alike.
We are grateful for the many donations received, noting that a significant portion consisted of adult items rather than childrenโs toys. Every contribution was received with appreciation and helped meet real needs within our community.
Thank you toniurndonors for your generosity and trust, even to those who chose to remain anonymous. Your quiet giving had a powerful impact.
This initiative was not without challenges, but it was filled with kindness, resilience, and collective effort. Together, we showed what is possible when a community comes together to serve with heart.
From all of us at the YES Centre, thank you for making this Christmas season one of compassion, hope, and shared humanity.

As we conclude this yearโs Turkey Drive, I am proud to share that 567 families were supported with turkeys, potatoes, and oranges, helping bring warmth, nourishment, and dignity to many homes during the holiday season.
Our sincere thanks to Joanne Zeineddine-Rashed Paul, 21st Century, @FreshRoute and the many generous Calgarians whose contributions, time, and trust made this initiative possible. Your support had a direct, meaningful, and lasting impact on families across our community.
This effort would not have been possible without also the extraordinary commitment of many volunteers. Many whom slept less than few hours to ensure the success of this giveaway. Your sacrifice, teamwork, and perseverance truly exemplify the spirit of community service.
This turkey drive was more than a distribution as it was initially cancelled and only made possible again because of those who believe in this city. It was a powerful demonstration of solidarity, compassion, and collective action.
Together, we showed what can be achieved when a community comes together with purpose and heart.
From Nancy, I and our team, thank you for making this initiative impactful, meaningful, and memorable for so many families.

๐ Happy National Child Day! ๐
Today, we celebrate the courage, imagination, and limitless potential within every child.
Let us encourage them to dream boldly, to believe in their abilities, and to see possibilities where others see obstacles.
Every child deserves the confidence to envision a brighter future and the support, love, and opportunities to chase those dreams fearlessly.
When we empower children to dream big, we help shape leaders, creators, and changemakers for tomorrow. ๐โจ

โ Hope is far from blind optimism; it is a call to work, to rise, and to fight with unwavering commitment for something greater; an opportunity in disguise each of us has their own to fulfill.โ

On this Remembrance Day, Nancy and I pause with deep gratitude to remember and honour the courage, bravery, and selfless sacrifice of those who gave everything so that we may live in a nation blessed with freedom, democracy, peace, and prosperity.
May we never forget the heroes who gave their lives for this blessed home we call Canada.
Many have asked me why and how I wake up every day committed to serving our community.
Why: Because once ran from war, born in Sudan, yet unable to become Sudanese; lived as a refugee in Cairo, yet never became an Egyptian.
Here, in this land of hope, hard work, and opportunity, anyone from any corner of the world can become a free Canadian because of those ultimate sacrifices made by those who came before us.
How: By serving my community with the belief that it is our greatest duty for us, our children, and the next generation to remember, honour, and continue to build a Canada worthy of their sacrifice & protect.
May we continue through our own services everyday to make it remain a beacon of hope for all who strive for freedom and human dignity.
