SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: LAGOS STATE COOPERATIVE COLLEGE INSPECTS AGEGE SKILL HUBS

I received the management team of the Lagos State Cooperative College on a courtesy visit and inspection tour of our Skill Acquisition Hubs in Agege, facilitated by the institution’s consultant, Dr. Ojikutu.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the ongoing investments and improvements being made towards skills development, vocational training, and youth empowerment within our community.

Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, capacity building, and strengthening technical and entrepreneurial training programmes that will equip residents with practical skills for self-reliance, employment, and economic growth.

As an administration, we remain committed to building functional skill hubs that serve as centres of excellence, innovation, and opportunity for the people of Agege.

Together, we are creating pathways for empowerment and sustainable development.

Reconstruction efforts have commenced along the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Motor Road, with Agege Local Government currently handling the drainage intervention to address flooding and improve water flow within the corridor.

In partnership with the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, discussions and engagements are also ongoing towards the rehabilitation of the road itself to improve accessibility, ease traffic movement, and provide lasting relief for residents and motorists who use the route daily.

I held a strategic meeting with officials of LASPARK concerning the vandalization of some Local Government properties established under our Greener Agege Initiative.

The incident, reportedly carried out by some market women and allegedly instigated by an agent of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Olaide Oladeebo (Okadigbo), is deeply concerning and unacceptable.

Public infrastructure and environmental projects are meant to serve the people and improve our communities, and any act of destruction against such efforts undermines the collective progress of Agege.

I have therefore called for proper investigation, query, and disciplinary actions against all individuals found culpable in the matter.

We will continue to protect public assets and remain committed to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Agege.

I celebrated Children’s Day with pupils from our Local Government primary schools in Agege, a day filled with the beautiful energy that only children can bring.

But even in celebration, our hearts remain with the children across Nigeria who are currently separated from their families. As parents, leaders, and members of society, we cannot ignore the pain and fear many families are experiencing at this moment.

We pray for their safe return. We pray that every child taken away from the warmth of home returns safely to continue living, learning, dreaming, and shining as the bright stars they were created to be.

Every child deserves safety. Every child deserves love. Every child deserves a future free from fear.

I held a strategic meeting with the Council Engineer alongside Engnr. Dayo Odunto, representative of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, on the rehabilitation of Ilezik Road (Agege Motor Road) and Alfa Nla–Capitol Road.

During the meeting, I expressed deep concern over the inconveniences and challenges the current condition of these roads continues to cause residents, motorists, and businesses within the affected areas.

In response, officials of the Lagos State Public Works explained that the rehabilitation of Alfa Nla–Capitol Road would first require extensive desilting, while the current weather conditions may temporarily affect some operational activities. For Ilezik Road (Agege Motor Road), plans are underway to deploy interlocking stones as part of the rehabilitation process.

Our discussions also extended to other critical roads within the local government requiring urgent attention and intervention, including Akilo Road and Oniwaya Road leading into Old Abeokuta Road.

We remain committed to engaging relevant agencies and pursuing sustainable solutions that improve mobility, reduce hardship, and enhance the quality of life for residents of Agege.

I met with market leaders across Agege and reiterated the supremacy and regulatory authority of the Local Government Council over market activities and operations within our jurisdiction.

I also advised market traders and stakeholders against allowing themselves to be used as tools for disrupting public order, sabotaging government policies, or destroying public properties put in place for the benefit of the community.

Development can only thrive where there is peace, cooperation, and respect for lawful authority. As an administration, we remain committed to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring orderly, safe, and functional markets across Agege.

We are expanding access to healthcare by enrolling less privileged residents into the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) insurance scheme.

This means no more out-of-pocket payments for basic medical care, just access to the treatment they need, when they need it.

Because healthcare should not be a privilege. It should be accessible to everyone.

I met with the Heads of Nursery and Primary Schools across Agege to review progress and strengthen our shared commitment to quality education.

So far, we have renovated 17 schools, established 5 school libraries, and delivered essential learning tools, including 1,800 twin desks, 400 ECC furniture, 72 teacher furniture, and 92 marker boards. We are also in the process of procuring 75 computers to expand digital learning.

Beyond infrastructure, we are investing in people and safety, with the recruitment of 50 primary school teachers and school support staff, deployment of security personnel, and ongoing plans to install CCTV systems in schools. We’ve also improved learning environments with 2 seven-aside pitches and connected 5 school compounds to the power grid.

Our discussions focused on improving the quality of education, increasing school maintenance support, expanding facilities, and ensuring inclusive learning for special needs students alongside skill acquisition opportunities.

Education remains a top priority, because the future of Agege is sitting in our classrooms today.
