@urbanehillbilly Yes! I always cringe a bit when I see bags full of leaves on curbs for pickup. Why throw away such a gift? I think our county uses them in compost, at least. We rarely get snow here, but I remember when I was a kid living in northern Ohio how fun & what hard work that can be!
Hickory trees from Nov 10-20th. Very grateful for the majestic Hickories, Oaks & other trees on our woodland property. I leave all the life giving leaves under the trees, mulch them into mowed areas, & use them in my #compost. #organicgarden#nativegeorgiatrees#hickorytree
Final Habaneros... sigh. 1st time growing #WestIndiesHabaneros from @rareseeds Harvested Fri expecting 1st frost, but just 33 & plants fine. Made vegetarian poppers & WOW! Spicy & sweet & delightful. Did a little happy, spicy dance while eating! #capsicum#organicgarden#GAgarden
What are those intriguing heart shaped leaves? The fallen leaves in my oak, hickory, & tupelo forrest help to create the humus rich soil that #Asarumarifolium loves. Known as #HeartleafGinger this #georgianativeplant charms my heart & the woodland landscape.
Symphyotrichum georgianum (GA Aster), a rare & endangered native GA perennial, blooms Oct-Nov here in my Zone 8 garden. Can't wait to grow more of these pleasing, purple, pollinator plants! #symphyotrichumgeorgianum#georgiaaster#georgianativeplants
My Gardenia is late for the sparse fall bloom that usually happens in Aug. The May bloom of these now 8 ft tall evergreens stuns the senses. The sweet, sultry fragrance of the hundreds of blooms remains my favorite on earth. #gardenia#zone8#organicgarden#georgiagardening
Fall in love with the bright red, summer flowers of this #georgianativeplant. Cardinal flower, #lobeliacardinalis blooms in August. Flowers march up stems, & the hummingbird zooming begins! To my eye, the flowers also look like tiny hummingbirds? Great for #pollinatorgardens
#Hibiscus coccineus is blooming now in my perennial garden. This #GAnativeplant is a fascinating member of the Mallow family. Plants can reach 6-8 ft. tall & feature stunning red blooms. They are perfect for #watergardens, and pollinators like #hummingbirds and #butterflies.
