We are so excited to kick off our Howell Grown Sunflower Project! 🌻 We’re working with local seed company @gardenhoard!
Raining or insanely hot and humid outside? We're out there workin'! We're consuming lots of water and popsicles. Several varieties of various crops were planted before (and in) the rain! So, so happy that more progress is being made in the field. 👩🌾👩🌾👨🌾👨🌾🌱
We made a dent in starting seeds today! Celery, Parsley, Bunching Onions, Cabbage, Collards, Kale, Kohlrabi, Mustard, Rhubarb, Asparagus, Bok Choy, and 15 types of heirloom tomatoes that we'll have available as plants in May at the markets! Onward, farm!
Always hustlin’! Very happy (and relieved) to announce that ALL of our seeds are now up to date on the website! If we have them, they’ll be there. Every single seed available is grown, harvested, dried and packaged by us. Thanks for checking them out! https://t.co/VEol7ZRYme
It was raining most of the day but that didn't stop us! So grateful for Patrick and Andrea who harvested in the rain with me all day 🌧️ The most hardcore people I know! Pizza was had 🍕 Can't believe we finished before dark! #farming
Garlic, garlic and more garlic! We use racks to cure our garlic in one of our outbuildings with good airflow. All varieties are separated and labeled. Once cured, we'll be trimming roots, snipping off stalks, and peeling off a layer or two to make them beautiful! #garlic
Happy to see a monarch caterpillar munching on the milkweed plant right next to our back door! Spotted a few smaller caterpillars on the plant too. Soon the caterpillars will find a suitable place to enter their pupal stage to then turn into monarch butterflies.
BEHOLD!!!!!! The first ripe cherry tomato! Garden Pearl won the tomato race this year. 😃🍅YES! Oh it was delicious. Also spotted the first baby hornworm 😠🐛... Hornworms get huge and eat tomatoes and tomato plants. NO!
Come visit us (and the alpacas) today at the Howell Farmers' Market! We have a variety of new plants and succulents, produce, crushed peppers and herbs, honey 🍯, beeswax lip balm, 3D printed succulent planters, and garden pins! Here until 2pm! #howellfarmersmarket#smallfarm
Harvests are getting bigger every week! Super excited to be here at the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market with tons of produce! We also have potted giant Italian parsley plants for your windowsill and 3D printed succulent planters. Here until 3pm! #annarbor#smallfarm#michiganfarm
Milkweed and several other flowering plants are attracting an abundance of monarch butterflies to the farm! Monarchs cannot survive without milkweed; their caterpillars only eat milkweed plants, and monarch butterflies need milkweed to lay their eggs. #monarchbutterfly#howellMI
It's been a very busy week. The team CRUSHED it today!! Dan and Christian tackled tomato trellising and mowing weedy aisles. Check out the before and after! Patrick and I tackled the harvesting, washing and bunching of some massive turnips🙀, squash, and all kinds of other crops!
