Registration Extended: Registration has been extended to this Friday, September 11, 2026 for the "Keep Gardena Beautiful Day" Citywide Cleanup event. We will be cleaning up the community garden, railroad tracks, sidewalks, and alleys. Please keep an eye out for an email this week with details for t-shirt pick up.

Please note, due to an abundance of caution for the West Nile virus, the Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve location will not be a cleanup location this year.

An update from our Public Works Dept.:

Golden State Water Company (GSW) is working to fix a water main break and repair damage to the LA County channel culvert. GSW is completing the engineering and construction permit process with LA County. Once the permit is approved and the repair is completed, the concrete culvert will require approximately 30 days to cure before the street paving restoration can take place.

GSW’s absolute deadline to complete the work within the County’s jurisdiction is October 15, with pavement restoration to follow immediately afterward.

In the meantime, the City is coordinating with Golden State Water Co. to ensure that traffic control measures remain in place and the area remains safe for the public.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the public’s patience. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

The Fall Bulky Item Pick Up will begin on Saturday, October 10th and end on Saturday, November 7th.

Please place your bulky items in the parkway (between sidewalk and street) by 6 AM on the corresponding date for trash pickup.

Residential customers are also able to contact WM once a quarter for complimentary bulky item pickup. Please contact WM at [phone] to schedule the pickup.

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments is studying opportunities to create mobility hubs in the South Bay. These are places that bring together transportation options, community amenities, and welcoming public spaces in one convenient location.

Mobility hubs could include shade, seating landscaping, public art, gathering spaces, transit connections, bike parking, travel information, and safer walking and biking facilities. The goal is to create places that support everyday life and make travel options easier to use. Different places will need different features, but amenities that benefit all choices mean better access and stronger communities for everyone.

Dangerous heat for the LA Region is expected from Tuesday, August 25 to Friday, August 28.
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the entire Los Angeles region, beginning Tuesday, August 25 at 10:00 AM through Friday, August 28 at 8:00 PM.
Forecasted temperatures are expected to reach 80-90 degrees along the coast, 100-110 degrees in valleys and lower mountains, and 90-100 degrees in Downtown LA and other interior areas.

In addition to the Extreme Heat Warning, NWS has issued a Red Flag Warning for the mountains and foothills bordering the northern portion of the City, including the Santa Susana and San Gabriel Mountains beginning Tuesday, August 25 at 10:00 AM through Friday, August 28, at 3:00 PM.
The mountains and foothills will see elevated fire weather conditions that favor fast moving fires and active fire behavior throughout the week. Those in the impacted area should be careful to avoid actions that could start a fire, and make sure they are ready to evacuate if a fire were to threaten their home.
During this heat event, it is important to be proactive from heat exposure. As temperatures rise, the City of Los Angeles urges Angelenos to plan and prepare to avoid heat exhaustion in your communities and for yourself. Call 311 to identify the cooling facilities closest to you, or visit theCool Spots LA App.

Keep cool by identifying and resting in shade or a building with air conditioning and drinking plenty of water. If you do not live in an air-conditioned building, visit a public library, recreation facility, senior center or other public air-conditioned building near you. Drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors or in the shade, stay in a cool area, and check up on relatives and neighbors, especially if they have pre-existing health conditions. Check on neighbors or others who may be sensitive to heat. Never leave young children, the elderly, or pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, for any length of time.

Take extra precautions if you work, exercise, or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. See images below for an explanation of signs and symptoms. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and to stay hydrated. Employers must provide access to sufficient water. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. If you suspect a heat stroke, this is an emergency! Call 911. Non-emergency information can be found by calling 311.
