We were notified of the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Toro last evening. We are deeply saddened by the passing on of such a young, promising and avidly modern leader of Toro, Uganda and of his generation. When King Oyo was crowned in September 1995, he was a novel and beautiful king to behold. He caught the attention of the world. The global media in a lighthearted and loving moment put him in the Guinness world records as the youngest king, saying “the king retired from the solemn proceedings (of his coronation) to play with his toys and balloons”.
We never forgot the innocent playfulness of the King who grew up to become a leading voice for environmental protection of his land, enterprise, agriculture and tourism. We will remember King Oyo for his steadfastness and public standing on his faith in Christ Jesus, his humility and care for the welfare of his people and for being approachable, kind and loving of his country.
We stand with his family, the people of Toro and Uganda who knew and worked with him closely to bring progress and prosperity to Toro. Uganda will miss him.
