@ShnYfem@jamesldowns@ProfLAppleby
It ‘can’, but often drives negative clinical bias, patient blame & resistance to person-centred, outcome focussed approach to care
Particularly dangerous for autistic women who it is easier to misdiagnose illness than neurodivergence

Today again I tried✔️
Today again I failed to herd the required cats✔️
#AMHPlife
It’s urgent✔️
It’s a priority✔️
It’s a farce✔️
*Good luck #EDT🤞☘️
**U gotta wonder about this Right Care Right Person stuff & what multi-agency partnership working, actually looks like?! #RCRP
@DerekRKENT Here here!
.. strategic shock to CQC would be a start
.. followed by same to leadership in nhs trusts - too long a ‘closed club’ perpetuating power whilst failing patients & frontline staff
Let’s get back to delivering service instead of pretending to be ‘captains of industry’
While I mostly agree✔️
I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be handing it to Drs without a safeguard/check & A An Other professional in place.
In general terms & in my experience. Drs under P r pretty poor at making time & decision specific capacity assessments - for lots of reasons>
“We urgently need a central system that catalogues and prioritises recommendations from not just inquiries, but coroners, HSSIB, the Care Quality Commission, and royal colleges so that trusts know precisely what they are expected to deliver and by when.”
@CarrieGrant1@GMB Important that police often pick up where MH or other care services fail to support
The officer below showed more candour & learning in relation to this one event with an autistic woman than Glos MH services have done in 7yrs
(happy to explain on DM)

@ProfLAppleby Of course, there’s difference between ‘ideation’ & ‘attempts’
Sadly, MH services too dismissive of attempts as ‘self harm’ so statistics skewed & opportunities to save lives missed
Really important in care of neurodivergent people as suicidality should NEVER be ‘downgraded’

Today I post in memory of my son Matthew James Leahy.
He would have been 33 years old today, had he survived.
I sit and wonder what he would look like right now?
What sort of man he would have grown up to be?
Whether he would have had a family and given me grandchildren?
What mark he would have made on this world?
What I do know is that he has never been forgotten and he will always have a special place in my heart.
He has left a legacy now….that legacy is to help others by encouraging myself and many others to have the strength needed to try to force change to a broken mental health system.
Beautiful, handsome Matt I love you with all my heart ❤️
Happy Heavenly Birthday my darling….love always Mum xx

Spent Christmas in hospital with J. Hoping to escape today or tomorrow. Been so impressed with staff and all the reasonable adjustments. It’s a shame MH hospitals aren’t like this.
PS machine bleeping needs to be part of Oliver’s training @PaulaMc007 😂
@MentalHealthCop@CommunityCare@UniOfYork@TheKingsFund Article refers to ‘increase’ on MH services - demand was always there, just not being resourced or fulfilled by MH services?
Police role in keeping vulnerable safe is incredibly important; current position is not great
.. BUT driven by poor MH leadership rather than police
@wendyburn@rcpsych This is the first time I can recall @rcpsych
Acknowledging that Autism can be misdiagnosed as Mental Illness.
I could write a book on the damage misdiagnosis has done and is still doing but I guess this is progress.
Nicholas told @Independent and @Channel4News
“I’ve been able to actually go outside and do things like people should be… I went out there at two in the morning, I could actually look at the stars and the moon, because I haven’t been able to see that for years,”
I am standing outside @NHSEngland Wellington House. I used to work here. I lost my job because I whistleblew. @AmandaPritchard talks about staff reporting sexual harassment yet has never answered any of my emails. I am now unemployed. He’s nursing children in London
Yes more resources & funding would be good, but this is about culture. NHS England & DHSC don’t seem to understand this.
MH Hospitals could have all the funding in the world & still treat people with the same indifference, disdain & total lack of compassion.
