It's been more than 5 years in the making, ⏲️ but we finally have published our cannabinoids postmortem redistribution data! 🎉🍾 You can read it for free until December 27 2023 at https://t.co/CyemDSdzLN The catalyst was our desire to look into the weird THC results... (1/6)
While I can't attend #TIAFT2023 this year, 🥲 I have some wonderful colleagues presenting our work! Make sure to check our poster P170 assessing the efficiency of a drink spiking detection device, 🍸 or download a copy at https://t.co/skgHjpKLK2 TLDR: don't rely on them 😬 (1/4)
Several forensic disciplines are moving towards Bayesian or interpretive reporting. What about forensic toxicology? 🧐 I've had the pleasure to sketch what this could look like in our field with @foetalgod. Fresh out and ⭐️free⭐️ in @JAnalyticalTox: https://t.co/8TR9ZM1Lt5 (1/3)
And now, for something totally down-to-earth at #TIAFT2023 - be sure to attend @GarneauBeatrice's presentation O52 Tuesday just before lunch. 🤩 She shows how methadone chronic use could be connected with an atypical postmortem redistribution pattern. 🔎 (1/4)
🔍The European #Drug Report 2020 by the @EMCDDA states that #NewPsychoactiveSubstances have become a more persistent problem. More than 50 new psychoactive substances continue to be detected for the first time annually by the EU Early Warning System (EWS).https://t.co/0ixx3GY8hF
@pblancka@IUjvary@ToxBrigitte (Still) not mentioned literally as far as I know. Maybe that will come later. They also didn't share their reasoning, we are not privy to all the details...
@pblancka@IUjvary@ToxBrigitte Final word on this : w-hydroxy norfentanyl is controlled in Canada under Schedule IV of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. But I am not sure they knew before I asked...
@FalardeauMylene@UQTR @LRC_UQTR Outside Canada, some Scandinavian countries seem to experience something similar to the Province of Québec: high prevalence of designer benzodiazepines sold as Xanax tablets on the black market. 3/3
@FalardeauMylene@UQTR @LRC_UQTR Generally speaking, the rest of Canada experience a much higher prevalence of opioids and opioid type NPS (ex : carfentanil). Opioid crisis has not unfurled in QC as much as in the other provinces. That could explain why so few cases of opioid type NPS were detected here. 2/3
@theresastotes @LRC_UQTR The fact that the whole process of addition/removal of NPS is ISO17025 makes it possible to adjust continuously to new trends and add compounds in a target of 1 month without going back to audit.
My contribution to the #CSFSPoster2020 Online Competition, for those who can read some French ;) New psychoactive substances are the hydra of the drug market: here’s how the Québec #ForensicToxicology lab fights it.

@theresastotes @LRC_UQTR Thank you! To give you an idea more than 5000 cases were screened with this method last year. Validation and addition of flualprazolam and isotonitazene to the method was done at the same time.
