As we approach the critical juncture of August 23, 2023, it is important to recognize that the term extension for the current president and his regime in Jubbaland is coming to an end.

This signifies the absence of a legally recognized president in Jubbaland, opening a unique window of opportunity for change and progress.

In this pivotal moment, we call upon civic leaders, opposition politicians, and all stakeholders to unite and work towards salvaging Jubbaland from its current state.

The formation of a transitional administration that prioritizes the interests and aspirations of the people is an essential step towards charting a new course for the region.

It is imperative to hold the federal government accountable for its support of a regime that has proven to be ineffective in countering terrorism and has persisted in power for an extended period of 13 years.

We urge federal authorities to seize this final opportunity to stand with the people of Jubbaland and halt their support for a regime that contradicts their professed commitment to democratic values.

Addressing our neighboring countries, Kenya and Ethiopia, we emphasize the national security threat emanating from Jubbaland under a dictatorial regime.

With porous borders that could potentially be exploited by terrorist elements, supporting the opposition and fostering stability becomes a shared imperative to safeguard their own security interests.

To the people of Jubbaland, we call for unity and the establishment of a democratic society that places the welfare of its citizens at the forefront.

By working together, you can create a foundation for lasting change and progress, driven by democratic principles and a collective commitment to a better future.

Finally, we urge the international community to reassess their support for an illegal and dictatorial president in Jubbaland. Redirecting funding towards a legitimate, people-centered administration will align with the values of democracy, human rights, and stability.

Returned to #Nairobi #Kenya after 32 years since flying off from Jomo Kenyatta airport to #America. I spent few months in Nairobi after spending 6 months in #Dadaab refugee camp.

I came with team that had been spearheading fundraising efforts for #Gedo bridges destroyed in the recent floods. #Bardhere and #Burdhubo bridges had been completely washed away. #Luq bridge has been extremely damaged but survived.

We’re in Nairobi to help raise awareness and encourage #Somalis to help fund rebuilding and repairing these vital infrastructure. The repair and rebuilding of these bridges is largely citizen’s effort despite national security implications.

Many parts of Gedo region are currently cut off from Somalia. Somalia government is too weak to help.

There is no more urgent cause to return to the horn. Everyone in the region is encouraged to help.

Abdirashid Abdinur Xasan, better known as Abdirashid Janan, the former Minister of Security in Jubaland, has been missing for the last five days in Nairobi. There is varied information circulating online regarding Janan's disappearance. Reliable sources indicate that he received a phone call, informed his closest associates of an appointment, left the hotel, and has been untraceable since.

After diligent efforts from political figures and friends from Janan's home region, it is now confirmed that he is in custody of the Kenyan state. The reasons behind Kenya's arrest of Janan, despite 2.5 years of close collaboration and contact, including his stay in Kenya, remain unclear. Sources close to Janan provide different explanations and theories. Janan received an official invitation to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President Said Deni in Puntland. This has not been well-received by President Ahmed Madoobe in Jubaland, who considers Janan his primary competitor. Thus, there are suggestions that this could be a strategic plan from Villa Kismaayo to prevent Janan from attending the inauguration. Sources also mention another sensitive theory related to security in the border areas, where Janan has played a central role.

Despite this, kidnappings and planned murders, particularly targeting individuals from the Gedo region and Middle and Lower Jubba, have been prevalent in recent years. Therefore, Janan's disappearance adds another layer of complexity to this group, which shares a long border with Kenya and a community with a fluid boundary structure.
