Grateful that @NSF is supporting my research with Jon (@J2dubyas), Andrii (@babii_andrii), and Alex (@alexiom_). Some very cool work coming from this collaboration that we are all excited about. Don’t miss a chance to see some of it in Alex’s job market packet (and hire him plz)
Here’s an article about the NSF grant that my colleague @GarrettEdScott received to evaluate airline pricing strategies. Big things happening. Come to the Sip. https://t.co/R86PfNGQQv
This was meant to be for my 100 Econ followers, but like the Rebs it got a little hot.
If Keith Carter sees this: I’m an Econ prof specializing in ticket pricing. I’ve worked with one of the 10 largest airlines in North America, and my research has been NSF funded. Hit me up
In the last 15 months, Ole Miss has been to a national semifinal in football, a women’s Sweet Sixteen, a men’s Sweet Sixteen, a women’s College World Series, and now a men’s College World Series. And it has an Econ department on the rise. Truly an everything school
NEW: Steve Sarkisian on Ole Miss’ transfer portal practices and academic standards:
“At Texas, we will only take 50% of a player’s academic credit hours. You may be a semester from graduating, but you’re going all the way back to 50% if you play here and want a degree. But at Ole Miss, they can take you. All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.”

Lane Kiffin is one of the most controversial and fiercely hated coaches in college football, following his shocking departure from Ole Miss for a $91 million contract at LSU. “No coach I talked to at any point ever said, ‘stay there.’” Kiffin says. “You got one life” https://t.co/kNueefe5qK
Blue/red button is gender neutral bear/man. Virtue signal the blue button/bear, but if it comes down to it, choose the other. At least 6bn world citizens are spamming red because they (correctly) see this as a chance to cull a bunch of egotistical westerners with savior complexes
@boombotrun@lhfaria For sure, it’s more a question of where these people in charge see the game in 5-10 years. It may be that they are unsure whether it will survive anyway. In which case, get all you can out of it now
@boombotrun@lhfaria Time will tell! I may be wrong. But the game is becoming more complex, and the gap is growing. Scrims don’t seem to be working. If China isn’t successful in this year’s meta that involves less strategic play and more zooming around and aiming, I fear they won’t be ever again
@boombotrun@lhfaria That’s the point. Are Chinese teams getting better playing only each other in CN and 20 games against international teams in globals every year? Or would they get better by playing Chinese teams in a subregion and 30-40 games against international teams in regionals and globals?
@boombotrun@lhfaria In my example, North Pacific with Korea and Japan would be a region that advances teams to globals. And South Pacific with China, SEA, South Asia, and Oceania is a separate region that advances teams to globals. Still two Asian regions
@boombotrun@lhfaria I’m less convinced they lose much steam. They are able to play winnable games against teams like GE and TS. And they can always scrap against RRQ and FS to make it to global events. They avoid Korea and Japan. If anything, it makes their path more intriguing and better storylines
@boombotrun@lhfaria In my example, EDG plays 5-10 matches against Chinese teams. They then go play PRX, RRQ, and FS in South Asia to earn the right to play FNC and G2 in London. Rather than 10-15 matches against Chinese teams and straight to London. The game looks better in 2030 under which?
@boombotrun@lhfaria There’s no way getting up at 2am to watch EDG vs Furia in London is preferred to watching a rivalry of EDG vs PRX in primetime in Asia.
You also have a lot of faith that a group of people on their 3rd version of a pro ecosystem in a 6 year old game know what they are doing haha
@boombotrun@lhfaria Again, this does nothing to change the ecosystem in China. If anything, it creates better content. If someone is from China, do you think they’d rather see EDG play [on top of the Chinese league] (A) PRX 5 times a year or (B) PRX, BBL, and Furia each 1 time a year?
