CN Spotlight of the week: The Texas Horn (UT Austin)
Started in 2021, the Texas Horn has been one of the most consistent papers in the network in producing news. Since winning ISI’s Best New Paper award in 2021, it has consistently published multiple articles each week covering campus issues and the Texas statehouse.
In the fall, the paper published a piece detailing controversial statements by UT Austin Dean of Undergraduate Studies Richard Reddick. Among other remarks, he said, “the ideological root of white supremacy is in the fabric of our nation and the institutions formed at its founding,” arguing that opposing DEI is anti-democratic. The university has not commented on the statements, and Reddick remains employed.
The article amassed 123,000 views on X, was reposted by Christopher Rufo, and received quote tweets from Professor Gad Saad and New Founding founder Nate Fischer.
