I listened to Ed Davey on the @BBCr4today this morning, and frankly, I think he missed the point.
The idea that we're keeping the triple lock to help millennials is at best for the birds, and at worst downright insulting. I say that as a millennial.
The case for the triple lock is a worthy one - stopping pensioner poverty. I want that as much as anyone. But pensioners are now less likely to be in poverty than children or working age adults.
We talk about fairness, yet our answer is to give the same increase to every pensioner, treating the one choosing between heating and eating exactly the same as the one with millions in the bank. I can see no moral or fiscal case for above inflation rises for millionaires.
That money should go where it's needed most - to everyone in poverty, not just one group. It could help fund free personal care, a policy that would disproportionately benefit older people.
Ed is right that we shouldn't pit one generation against another. But intergenerational inequality is already one of the defining injustices of our time, and this would further entrench it. Worse, it gaslights an entire generation into believing it's for our benefit.
Telling millennials we're keeping the triple lock to help us in 30 years' time is nonsense. We're on course to be the first generation worse off than our parents. We're locked out of the housing market, paying higher taxes, repaying student loans that never seem to shrink, and putting off having children because of the cost of living.
I joined this party because I care about fairness and tackling inequality, and that has to include inequality between generations.
This line, and this decision, fails on both counts. Ed needs to think again.
My 2nd favourite memory of the France-England football rivalry is this Republican Garde absolutely bossing Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger a few days after the Manchester attack
An incredible moment of Anglo-French communion 18 months after the Bataclan

@StateDept The police have a lot to answer for but there is no 2-tiered policing in the UK
The families of Rene Nicole Good and Alex Pretti are still overdue your condolences, so get your own house in order sort and forget about shoving your twisted ideology down our throats
So when a white Christian man rapes a Sikh woman, no Christians have to make statements saying it doesn't represent all Christians. Nobody makes generalizations saying it represents all Christians, but if a Sikh commits a crime, now all Sikhs are to blame? What a joke.
A British national living in Southampton had her car and property damaged. She said,
“I’ve never felt so unsafe in my house.”
She did not feel unsafe because of Sikhs, Muslims or migrants but because of other British nationals, a section of whom were far right.
Forever grateful to everyone at The Late Show — from David Letterman to Stephen Colbert.
That stage changed our lives.
The night after our first appearance in 2014, we played the Orange Peel in Asheville. Tonight, we’re back there again.
Ben, we know exactly what Nigel said about moving to an insurance-based health system. Whether it’s Reform policy or not, it is still an extremely scary prospect for anyone not comfortably well off
Angela Rayner openly lying to school children about Nigel Farage and Reform - even suggesting that children would die if Reform were in government - based on a fake policy that Nigel and many others in Reform have consistently said is untrue.
This is really, really bad. Using children for political points. Lying to them about your opposition. Scaring them with falsehoods, and posting it online yourself because you're somehow proud of it! This woman could be PM in a few weeks 🤡
The Pope, who’s spent his entire adult life studying religion, apparently knows less about it than JD Vance, who’s been Catholic for about five minutes.
There’s a special place in hell for those who have such contempt for the people who tragically died in one of the worst fires in this country in living memory.
Shocking but not surprising from @reformparty_uk.
Utterly disgusting.
