As I’ve said before, I gave Barney and his charming wife & another adoring Irish couple a lift back to Sydney from Wyong races in the early 80’s, we all shared some great tales about Betting in Ireland & Australia, what a privilege to have met them.
I've known Paul Hennessy for 40yrs. He's a legend in every sense of the word and it was my joy to sit down with him recently after his 3rd English Derby victory. I hope you enjoy our chat in the latest instalment of Talking Dogs Meets.

@IanFortune@BenStarSports I’ve been in the Game for a while, and isn’t it a pleasure to listen to whoever, talking whether it be about the Horses, Dogs or Trots & knowing what they’re talking about, instead of someone rambling on & don’t really know.
Memories of working at Wollongong Gosford Bulli Dapto Harold & Wentworth Park dogs, Randwick Rosehill Canterbury Warwick Farm Hawkesbury Kembla Gosford Wyong horses in the open, baring the depths of winter but within us lay an invincible summer.
It’s always easy after the ball, but fair dinkum all he had to do was take a trail on Woke Up Dreaming & if the leader slackened the pace down the back then take off & win, if they ran the race again I’d lay 2 on the 2nd horse !
Punters have & always will think
if a Bookie has it one out it would be good, it’s just the opposite, when there’s no market place punters don’t bet, BUT decades ago I worked for a Bookie at a Big meeting one out , he was competitive against himself & made it work, very clever!
The bookmakers are on their knees but are ready to bounce back on the final day of Royal Ascot 🐎🔥
I’ll be spending the day with Kaan from @StarSports_Bet to see what it is like behind the scenes with a bookmaker on one of the busiest days of the year!

Aidan we all know once it’s happened it’s happened, but if you’re laying or backing them to put the bread & butter on the table there’s a bit more to it, as I always say, to eat well gambling on the Hooves is harder than you think.
Will Betting on Racecourses in the UK & especially Australia where the Biggest Gambling in the world took place in the 1960’s very early 70’s come back, I’m going to say yes, I’m afraid I won’t be here to see it but I’m willing to bet it will !
"Nobody would be going to the Downs in 10 days if it wasn't for him" 😮
Sir Mark Prescott told us the story of Stanley Wootton who played a key role in the evolution of Epsom Downs and The Derby 💯
For Professional yard watchers knowing the individual is their key, viewing the winner of the Oaks today in the yard with two handlers & being unruly & sweating up was most probably the norm for her, but to the 95% + of yard watcher’s they most probably put a line through it !
