@ChaskinSaroff@dccommonsense But as you point out, amendments altering article 2 would probably necessitate amendments to article 1 and 3. But reining in the executive feels most urgent, the largest hurdle, and the clearest campaign goal for a party to rally around.
@ChaskinSaroff@dccommonsense I think if we got to a point where a party was willing to neuter their own executive power, they would also address the issues with the legislature. Ideally, an active, large, representative legislature would create robust rules and appoint competent secretaries to manage.
@CrazedOneOhOne@dccommonsense How on earth do you make the leap from nukes = strong executive. If anything it’s a great example for why no one person should have all that power.
@_vectorist No I actually think it should be the new strategy to run on. If we are actually interested in correcting the direction this country is going in, outline clear amendments that are needed, and try to get 2/3s.
@constans It seems to be the best path forward. Amendment 28 should revolve around weakening the executive. I think we should get rid of the president as a position entirely but that may be a harder sell. It is a clear path and vision forward that more Dems should embrace.
@JoePostingg@hecubian_devil I think an obvious step to curb this obvious institutional breakdown has to be an amendment on article 2. I think we should get rid of the presidency as a whole, but at the very least constraining the position has to be a priority.
@politicalmath What? Policy decisions should be made and shaped by a moral framework. Leaders shoulder that responsibility. The right assigns moral blame to the Biden administration anytime any immigrant causes harm. Same with funding given to planned parenthood, etc etc.
@kevsaucebro Council should amend the legislation to fix this oversight. Seems simple enough, article laid out how most other areas deal with this issue.
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
@aetervader@strugglinguncle@facetedcarapace I agree. My fiction books are for escapism and entertainment. Often, the voice actors add depth and engagement. If I miss exact details its ok, but if I am reading nonfiction it is usually to gain understating on specific topics, and reading imparts the knowledge better for me.
@ZachBIsrael@CMLewisGeorgeW4 How does a block part affect staffing? Why would police need to staff a block party? It is permitted by DoT, why is MPD blocking?
@OPinDC Thank you for the chance to engage and advocate for a more vibrant, denser and affordable DC. The DC OP staff I interacted with were super knowledgeable and engaging. I appreciate the time they took answering my questions and listening to my feedback.
@JHWeissmann I believe council has to vote on it, and they can amend before approval. We have a lot of primaries running right now and each candidate should be asked about this and if they approve or would change it.
