Taxi Now Group is launching Cabs Into Camden — a formal campaign to reverse the licensed taxi exclusion on Tottenham Court Road.

Every licensed London taxi is legally required to be wheelchair accessible. Tottenham Court Road’s exclusion removes the only fully accessible transport option from one of London’s busiest streets, all day, every day.

Here’s what that actually costs. Under the Equality Act 2010, we cannot refuse a wheelchair passenger.

Take a wheelchair passenger from the bottom of Tottenham Court Road up to University College Hospital at the top — a journey that should run straight up one road. We can’t do that. We’re forced to route around the exclusion zone entirely, turning a direct trip into a detour. That’s extra time, extra distance, extra fare — charged to a passenger who, by law, has no choice but to travel with us.

We’re also asking for the no-left-turn from Tottenham Court Road into Euston Road to be reversed — another restriction adding unnecessary detours to already accessible-only journeys.

Bank Junction faced the same exclusion for 7 years. City of London reversed it in 2024 — accessibility, safety record, and the fleet’s shift to zero-emission all factored in. The same case applies here, arguably more so.

This isn’t new to us — restricted area access has been part of our manifesto since we launched, alongside VAT and vehicle choice.

We’re writing formally to Camden Council and the Mayor’s office this week.

We have NO new vehicle and are about to loose 1,300 in the next several months.

Very sad to hear the sad news our ex owner Ken Bates has passed away, without him Chelsea wouldn’t be the club we are today. Firstly he saved my club from bankruptcy and then won us our first major trophies for 26 years in 1997. Brought the likes of Ruud Guilit, Vialli and Zola to our club. Got us our first taste of Champions League in 1999. Then sold the club to Roman Abramovich and we went onto more glory. Thank you Ken Bates 💙
