The UK government has raised your taxes without telling you.

Inflation has increased the cost of living by 30% in the last 5 years. Yet the marginal tax rates haven’t changed since 2019.

Five years ago the £50K threshold could buy 30% more stuff than before.

The £50K threshold should be up around £65K for it to be on par with where it was 5 years ago. The £12,570 tax free allowance should be £16,300 In order to buy the same goods.

If the government wants the economy to suddenly spring to life, @Keir_Starmer needs to adjust the marginal tax brackets in line with inflation.

The reason people feel so stretched right now is that we have 2019 tax brackets with 2024 prices (post record level inflation).
