⏺️Going 10 months without mentioning the word Covid on your social media was at the very least a missed opportunity to inform Oklahomans about the leading infectious cause of death in Oklahoma and a public health fumble.
⏺️Covid is the #4 overall cause of death
⏺️It raises serious questions about who is running social media for OSDH and what the current @HealthyOklahoma plan is to fight this deadly infection that we all want to forget about but is still killing our citizens.
⏺️The new updated XBB booster that became available in September 2023 was never announced on your social media. Every day we are losing 3 or 4 Oklahomans to Covid➡️ Mostly seniors who would benefit from the updated Covid booster. These are almost all preventable deaths! The 10 months of silence was deafening.
⏺️Oklahoma is in a virtual tie for most Covid deaths in the US per capita with Mississippi. We have lost ~.5% of our population to Covid.
⏺️Oklahoma remains the only State in the US that doesn’t post Covid cases and Covid deaths on the state dashboard(the two most understandable metrics for citizens to follow).
⏺️The hospitalization data that is shown on the OSDH dashboard should be taken with a grain of salt. In the middle of the pandemic OSDH changed who they count as a Covid patient in the hospital. They are no longer counted as a Covid patient after 7 days of symptoms even though they could be infectious for 14 days. If a Covid patient is hospitalized on day 8 of symptoms with difficulty breathing and has Covid pneumonia & respiratory failure and tests positive with both an antigen and PCR test for Covid and are admitted to ICU on the vent, they are not considered a Covid hospitalization. Strange but true.
⏺️Not all hospitals report
⏺️ While variant test results in percentage are shown on the dashboard, you stopped informing us of how many tests are being performed. ▶️An important metric to understand the results and a basic data point for scientific standard.
⏺️ This is yet another example why citizen oversight boards like the Oklahoma State Board of Health should have their supervision authority restored.
⏺️We have had 6 different Commissioners of Health since 2018!
⏺️Our State Lab was critically weakened by hasty and terrible decisions by a higher authority.
⏺️The Oklahoma State Health Department and its employees need more resources and less direct political pressure to effectively do its job.

❗️Oklahoma Covid Hospitalization rate for those 65 yo or older has increased 800% since Sept. 2023
❗️It’s been 819 days since the Oklahoma State Department of Health even mentioned the word Covid on its Facebook page(a key way to communicate with seniors). That’s 2 years, 2 months, and 28 days since they mentioned Covid there.
❗️An updated Covid booster was approved in September 2023 but OSDH never mentioned this in any social media post.

The deadly salmonella outbreak has grown to 99 patients(hospitalizing 45/killing 2) while Oklahoma has the only State Health Lab in the United States that can’t do food borne illness testing to track cases. Before the OPHL was moved from OKC, it could perform that testing. Oklahoma outsources this testing to Nebraska despite building a $30 million new OPHL 3 years ago in Payne County.
