Ran businesses, built startup communities, supported other people's startups. Now read about plants. Wikipedia says I'm best known for a wrestling book.
@davemeltzerWON His second St. Louis match was vs Devoy Brunson on the undercard. A week earlier, he wrestled Andre in Toronto and a week later had his end-of-the-wrestling-war match with Dick the Bruiser in Detroit. Then wrestled Brisco for the title in Toronto. A different world in St. Louis.
@davemeltzerWON Crowds were getting thin by 1977 and I think the final straw for Tunney was booking Exhibition Stadium for three shows and drawing maybe 7,000 for each (that was the reported number). The second show was Sheik's last for Tunney. He was advertised for the third but was a no-show.
@davemeltzerWON Sheik had another 3 1/2 years on top in Toronto after this. Crowds did get smaller, but in this case that meant down to 10,000 a show, so no one was too panicked. They they eventually got smaller and smaller.
@davemeltzerWON The only time Sheik threw fire in Toronto. I got the impression that the fire safety people weren't happy about it and told Tunney never to do it again.
@davidbix My report from that night is still around

He was announced as Chief something, but I never caught the name. Was later told it was him, but he wasn't anyone I was familiar with.
@davidbix He was a student at Nick DeCarlo's wrestling school and DeCarlo provided the ring and wrestled on the WCW shows in Toronto at that time, so it would make sense that he would be available as a fill-in.
@davidbix If you Google "Troy Montour" and Brantford, I think the guy who shows up in a couple of stories from 2015 is him. I think I even saw him wrestle once -- November 1990 -- as a late replacement against Trucker Norm (Mike Shaw) in Toronto. Billed as Chief something (maybe Montour).
@benmillerMKE@davemeltzerWON There is no move in the history of wrestling that is more preposterous -- or that exposes cooperation between opponents more -- than whipping a guy into the ropes.

It's perversely impressive to see the lengths Bing Chat will go to in fabricating fake research papers. It could just do a search ON BING to see there is no such paper, but it would rather just make stuff up.
People worry about AI taking over our jobs, but with Bing Chat, I'm the one doing ITS job and performing actual web searches to uncover all the stuff it just made up.
I know that ChatGPT/Bing Chat makes up fake research papers, so this wasn't surprising, but it was disappointing that just a few Qs later -- after it had apologized -- ChatGPT provided the same made up reference again
