In the past couple of days, we have seen Ramadan lights on display in central London (over Easter), an Islamic call to prayer from the Scottish first minister's official residence, and a 'Ramadan break' in a Premier League football match.

Some people will approve of these things on the grounds that they demonstrate how wonderfully 'tolerant' and 'inclusive' we are. Others will be uneasy on the grounds that they are further proof of an ongoing and significant shift in our cultural landscape - and one that no-one has ever voted for.

My personal view is that 'tolerance' and 'inclusion' are fine to a degree, but can be taken to such extremes that, as a nation and community, you end up losing a sense of who or what you truly are. I think we are already well down that path.
