ASMARA ― The Eritrea National Team has officially learned its opponents for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Drawn into Group D, #Eritrea will take on #Kenya, #Guinea, and #SouthAfrica, with qualification matches scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Despite the challenges and setbacks the team has faced in recent years, this marks another important opportunity for Eritrean football to compete on the continental stage.
Wishing our national team strength, unity, and success throughout the campaign.
It all makes sense why Cameron Hudson was acting weird this week, what a joke! Mind you he has been looking for a job to be an expert of the Horn of Africa and the Gulf. Now that the two desperates meet, we will see how he will adapt his articles
For Eritreans hoping for a "reset" with US, remember the top US consigliere, Henry Kissinger; "to have the US as an enemy is dangerous, to have it as a friend is deadly". some very wise words...
Dear @ThierryMARIANI,
State-affiliated Ethiopian media outlets aligned with the ruling Prosperity Party are circulating statements attributed to you, including claims that you support Ethiopia’s ambition to become a maritime state as a “legitimate right.”
Could you clarify whether these reports accurately reflect your position, or whether your remarks have been taken out of context? The distinction is critical.
Publicly endorsing such a position, particularly if it implies territorial acquisition by force, raises serious concerns under international law, including principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prohibition on the use of force as outlined in the UN Charter.
Ethiopian officials have, on multiple occasions, made statements interpreted by many in the region as threats toward neighboring coastal states, particularly #Eritrea.
As a result, there is growing anxiety that such rhetoric, if legitimized by international political figures, could escalate tensions and potentially contribute to renewed conflict. The humanitarian consequences of such a development would be severe, with risks of large-scale displacement and loss of life.
Given the legal and political implications, any perceived endorsement of actions that could be construed as supporting an unlawful intervention or annexation may also carry reputational and diplomatic consequences. It could affect not only regional stability but also broader international relations and your own political standing.
In this context, a clear and unambiguous statement from you would be highly valuable, particularly for those in Eritrea and across the region who are seeking reassurance that international norms and peaceful resolution of disputes remain paramount.
I would greatly appreciate your clarification on this matter.
Well… well… WELL.
My @X family and Eritrean community… Let us redirect your focus and attention to the petition created last year boycotting The Eri-In-Tech event which took place in Washington DC at the @PressClubAust. Specifically mentioned and targeted was a certain individual who cosplays as an Eritrean, and somehow was a scheduled panelist — @timnitGebru.
The attached is a screenshot of an email written by @timnitGebru ahead of the Eritrean Festival in Seattle in 2023, with the hope and intent to derail and prevent the event. The email clearly exhibits the level of deceit and ignorance she harbors for Eritrea and the Eritrean-American community at large. That’s why it was imperative for her NOT to be represented at that function, and any future events which highlight the Eritrean people, culture or community.
#Q: "Why no ATMs?"
#A: Eritrea’s banking system is still under U.S. sanctions, including a ban from the global money transfer network, SWIFT.
Because of that, modernizing the banking system is nearly impossible since much of the required technology is U.S. made and restricted. The same is true on communication technology and a ban from undersea cable for Internet connectivity.
Yet, despite these strict restrictions, Eritrea has managed to maintain a stable economy and a strong currency, ranked 6th strongest in Africa (1 US$ = 15 Nakfa).
What’s the point of having ATMs if your currency is worthless, right? Now imagine how well Eritrea could do if those sanctions were not imposed.
#Q: "what explains the fact that Eritreans are seeking refugee everywhere on earth."
#A: The Barack Obama administration introduced a policy that aimed at weakening Eritrea’s defense forces by motivating the youth to flee the country through a program that guarantees "automatic asylum pathway" for Eritreans who managed to leave the country illegally.
Under this system, the UNHCR joined to facilitate their speedy resettlement to a third country in Europe or North America, often in less than three years.
As a result, many Eritreans understandably left their country in large numbers to "take advantage".
Now ask yourself this: would Nigerians or Ethiopians or any African behave any differently if a politically driven “automatic green card” opportunity like that were offered to them? Of course not. A million of them would have turned to "a refugee" over night as the reward for short term pain is a 'greener pasture' in the west.
That policy is still in place, which is why people, including Ethiopians, disguising as "Eritreans" continue to use it. Yet critics like you insist Eritreans are leaving solely because conditions at home are worse than the political, economic, and security situations in places like Ethiopia, Sudan, or Nigeria. That simply is not the case.
The accession of Eritrea to the United Nations.
"#Eritrea came to independence following a long struggle through a democratic act of self determination, the United Nations is proud to have been associated with that process and with the birth of Eritrea as independent nation. The flag of Eritrea should now be raised! "
The only document and process Abiy needs to know how Eritrea became independent state is illustrated in this clip. But I am happy for him to continue looking for the documents in his drawers for the rest of his days.

Let's go over it again ― ⚡️Getachew Reda may have let slip a major secret that directly contradicts PM Abiy Ahmed’s latest explanation over how relations with #Eritrea soured.
Abiy has argued in his recent Parliament speech that the relationship deteriorated simply because #Ethiopia chose to end the Tigray war in Pretoria.
Getachew offers a different account. He says that while the Pretoria talks were underway, Abiy had already opened secret discussions in Seychelles with two TPLF negotiators, Gen. Tsadikan and Gen. Tadesse Werede, to explore a joint agenda targeting #Eritrea.
Think about that. While Eritrean troops were on the ground preventing the toppling of his government by TPLF, Abiy Ahmed was simultaneously entertaining secret talks over the idea of "turning against Eritrea" together. 😠
Off course, once the Eritrean intelligence picked up on those back-channel discussions, whatever trust and confidence the Eritrean government once had in PM Abiy’s leadership disappeared from that point forward.
The war in Sudan has been going on for quite some time. If America is now stepping in to stop the raging war in Sudan, it’s because their proxy (RSF) is losing.
Don’t be fooled.
As @POTUS declared today, the United States is committed to ending the horrific conflict in Sudan. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are working with our partners to facilitate a humanitarian truce and bring an end to external military support to the parties, which is fueling the violence. With peace and stability, the Sudanese people can return to civilian-led governance in a unified Sudan. @POTUS wants peace, and with @SecRubio, we are acting now.
@MFAEthiopia This made me laugh. What a poor attempt to justify an invasion. Your people don’t want war and I think if you attempt an invasion it will be a repeat of the past, where Ethiopians are forced to the front lines and shot from the back by their own military if they dare to retreat.
Early in the morning, I received a call from Kibrewosen Bereket Mengisteab, who delivered the sad news that the King of Guyla Music, Dr Bereket Mengisteab, had passed away. Kibrewosen wanted me to hear it directly from him rather than through social media. After ending the call, I was on my way to work. While on the train, I found myself transported back to 1977. I remembered seeing Bereket for the first time in Sudan, when he performed with the ELF Cultural Group. During that concert, he sang the historic song "Ne'Nay Dergi Fekera Nederit Aytemlesin Iya Sewra Eritrea." His dynamic and melodic voice, along with his uniform, Krar, and Afro hairstyle, left a lasting impression on me. Years later, as I became a musician myself, I had the opportunity to play and tour with Bereket several times. To me, he is a profound historian and linguist, known as the father of Eritrean Gualya. In 2017, I conducted an interview with Bereket that he often recalls. Whenever he sees me, he keeps asking about it, and I love the way he connects with that legacy.
The last time I visited Bereket, I had a fantastic conversation with him and his daughter, Milena. I enjoy hearing him affectionately call her "Milena Sewarit Makina. Lebey mesaki tehanina." One of my favourite songs by Bereket is "Sheta Merur." When Tekle Adhanom rearranged the song, we recorded it together, and I had the honour of playing the alto saxophone on it. Bereket appreciated that collaboration and always said that having someone like Tekle take your song and rearrange it is a true honour. Bereket's knowledge of the cultural and historical aspects is profound. We will miss him, but his songs will shine even brighter than before! A true African icon! Rest in peace!
When Ethiopia’s territorial integrity was threatened in 2020, Eritrea stood with her. Same with Somalia whose army it is helping train, and with Sudan, to whom it has remained supportive amid war. We don't thank Eritrea enough.
The evidence documenting #Eritrea’s historic statehood and #Ethiopia’s expansionist land-grab ambitions is overwhelming. One striking example comes from declassified U.S. State Department minutes of a March 1949 meeting between Italian Ambassador Tarchiani and Secretary of State Dean Rusk, where it was noted: ‘Italy had on numerous occasions expressed its complete willingness to the cession of the port of Assab and a portion of southern Eritrea to Ethiopia.’
Yet, #Ethiopian expansionists continue to peddle the myth that Eritrea was nothing more than a colonial creation of Italy, and that it was only Italian occupation which denied them access to the sea—when in truth, the historical record tells a very different story.
Eritrea is always for #Eritreans and by Eritreans!
